A simple tote bag to compliment my mother in-law outfit from the left over pieces of fabric
Hello lovers of creativity
Greetings to all sew mate and members of this community, I hope you are all doing great just as I am here, it feels so good to be here and to share with you today the making of this simple tote bag I made for my mother in-law from the left over pieces of fabric to compliment the skirt and blouse peplum outfit I made for her recently.
Recently, I made a six pieces skirt and a peplum blouse outfit for my mother in-law which came out very nice and beautiful with the cape design on the front neckline and a simple pleat on the center of the sleeves, after the cutting and sewing process, as you all know, there are lots of pieces laying there during the cutting process, well days after, I thought of making a simple bag to compliment the outfit since my mother in-law will want to take some little items with her when wearing the outfit. I thought it was a great idea, so I came up with this.
From the pieces of fabric, I had to look for a square shape piece big enough to make the bag but unfortunately, they were all small pieces, I had to come up with an idea of sewing two pieces together and trimm it off to make the size I actually wanted, that was exactly what I did to get my desired size of the fabric I worked on.
Let's get started with the cutting and sewing process
I eventually had 23 x 13" from the pieces I joined together with the seam line in the middle then, I cut out same shape of lining and interfacing while the interfacing was ironed to the main fabric to make it firm.
For the handle, I measured and cut out 2 pieces of 4 x 16" from other left over pieces as well.
Both sides were folded in to the middle and folded in two before being sewn on both sides.
I took the main fabric for the bag and measure 1.5" on both sides away from the center line and the handle were sewn on it on both sides.
I placed the lining on the right side and sew on the two sides where the handle was sewn
It was folded in two with lining to lining and fabric to fabric, then I sew on both sides leaving an opening on the lining where it can be turned inside out.
I measured 1.5" on the 4 edges and sew on it just as seen below.
The excess were trimmed off and it was turned inside out while the opening was sewn together.
Finally, the tip of the bag was neatly top stitched round for neat finishing and this is the final outcome.
Instead of disposing the left over pieces of fabric, you can make something as nice as this and I'm sure it will be well appreciated.
I'm sure you like the simplicity and beautiful outcome of this bag, just as my mother in-law did.
