A quick wedding guest outfit for my cousin's friend
Hello everyone
Greetings to you all in this community on this beautiful Monday, I hope you all had a great weekend, wishing you all a productive week ahead with great positivity. It's is my pleasure to share with you today the cutting and sewing process of this beautiful dress I made for my cousin's friend for a wedding she attended. Don't mind the picture below with her singlet under it, she only came to try it on for adjustment if any.
My cousin and her friends were to attend a wedding of one of their friend and they were to put on different outfit but with same head gear, luckily for my cousin, I made an outfit for her recently and she decided to wear the outfit to the wedding, just few days to the wedding, my cousin's friend contacted her that she needed to make a dress for the wedding and I was given the fabric to make a particular style but with the limited time, to purchase the material from market before the sewing, we had to change the style to something simple and elegant.
I suggested this and it was agreed on, it's a simple style of a long gown with net York, princess dart bustier and a pleated satin at the front bodice with an attached long tail at the back.
Let's get started with the cutting and sewing process.
From the 3yards lace fabric, I folded it in two to cut the front bodice of an A-shape lower part, using the waistline, hip, full length measurement and the wideness of 5" it was cut out and placed on another folded fabric to cut out the back bodice with zipper allowance.
To cut the back of the lower bodice, I cut out 1" below the hip where the attached piece will be sewn. The same shape was used to cut out the lining.
I placed the front part on a folded satin and I cut out same shape which was used to turn the fabric inside out for neat finishing.
The back was also sewn and turned inside out, neatly ironed and sewn together.
For the attachment at the back for the long tail, I folded the remaining fabric and cut out i cone shape of the opening length at the back with 15" excess.
It was sewn to the middle of the two pieces at the back to form the long tail.
The front and back were then sewn together to make the lower part of the dress.
For the upper bodice, I drafted out a princess dart bustier on a brown paper with York which was transferred to the satin material I used for the upper bodice.
The back bodice was sewn with the lace fabric after it was drafted on a brown paper and the York was made with net.
The upper bodice was sewn to the lower part of the gown and I proceeded to the sleeves.
For the sleeves, I cut out a basic long sleeve one from the lace fabric and the other from the satin material.
The sleeves were sewn to the armhole circumference and I cut out a long piece from the satin to make pleat at the shoulder down to the hip.
Finally, I added embroidery to the side of the gown where the satin was twisted.
This must really be a whole lot of work for you here. I like the drape on the dress, they are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks dear friend, the name of the pleated front ( drape) actually escaped my mind while typing 😃 It was what gave the dress a unique look and I love it as well.
