The Most Memorable Gift I Ever Recieved

One of the most memorable gifts I got was from my grandmother as a child. Throughout my childhood, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother.

She would pick my brother and me up from school up until the point where we could drive. She made sure we attended church throughout our childhood and hosted all of our Sunday dinners. She had always had all the cousins and extended family members over for holidays too.

She helped us to develop a lot of really good values in us as children and steered us onto the right path.

She was very fair and she called things as she saw them, but her actions reflected that she was all about seeing the good in people and extending love to the people around her.

Sometime between 1997 and 1999, she went on a trip with the church that we attended to Israel and maybe Egypt.

I don’t know if Egypt is really part of the trip or I’m just saying that because I remember ‘The Prince of Egypt’ movie coming out about that time.

But she brought us back these gold chains as gifts with a charm attached that has my name in Hebrew.

It’s a nice link design that held up amazingly throughout my life somehow…

Once we got the chain I wore that thing everywhere. It rarely left my body up until I attended college.

I wore the chain as a kid to school, while playing, while I ate and bathed. I wore that chain while playing tee ball, machine pitch, and fastpitch! I wore it playing basketball in the third grade, and football in the 5th grade. I wore it playing varsity football and baseball in high school as well, and it really rarely left my body.

But it was an amazing gift. It always reminded me of the loving bond that we shared. I spent a lot of time with her; she played a big part in raising me and was super impactful in my growth and development as a child.

I just happened to come across this picture after seeing the latest Neoxian writing prompt and had to share a post even though I know it is past the curation deadline. I missed the deadline but this is too good of an opportunity to make a cool post.

Seeing the prompt helped me remember that I still had the chain and brought back a lot of amazing memories!

Thanks guys! ✌🏾❤
