Amazing acrobats at Brighton Dome - FIQ!

As a child I would have loved to have been an acrobat! Now I have to be satisfied with being an audience member. In December Brighton Dome became a stage for a display of colour and energy with the Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger climbing, twirling and performing feats we could all only dream of doing . The show was called FIQ!

With a curtain raiser from the young people from Brighton Circus project , we were entertained by a performance from our local young people who are training to join a circus , at least on a part time basis ! Their performance showed their dedication to training and gave a great show.

The main show was the acrobats from Tangier. It brought the Moroccan acrobatic tradition to the modern stage. With breakdancing, climbing and football filling the stage with a background of music by DJ Dino scratching the turntable it was an explosion of noise and colour. There was even a motorbike revving across the stage intertwined with colourful dancers and noise. The visual world was designed by celebrated photographer and artist Hassan Hajjaj.

Brighton Dome is a magnificent historical building in the centre of Brighton and part of the Royal Pavilion Estate which was built for British royalty two hundred years ago. The Dome theatre started as the riding stables for the Prince Regent (later George iv of Great Britain) . The Royal Pavilion has had a colourful history including being used as a hospital for Indian Soldiers in the First World War. The Dome was a venue for wartime dances in WW2 and has also been a roller skating rink in the past. It is now used for a variety of arts events including theatre and music. https://brightondome.org/
