The Pros and Cons of Buying Second-Hand Items: A Story of a Faulty Bicycle

avatar

Disclaimer: Nothing intresting don't waste your time here.

You do purchase second-hand items many times, the best reason I can say that is to save money. And that is obvious sometimes we need to get a really good deal at a very cheap price. And if you willingly need that particular thing then sure you will be ready to get that anyhow. There are many rich peoples who invest in many different paintings and antique pieces to show their wealth. Or maybe that is a good way to save money 😬. Sometimes you did get a good deal randomly. For but I have seen most of the time when I do purchase second-hand items that did very last long for me. The opposite did happen with me when I do purchase a new item almost most of the time.

For the smartphone I am using, one of my office friends give me that the original price was 24k INR, but the screen was broken so I didn't 6k INR to replace the screen with the original one. So at almost 4x less price than the original one, I did cat a good smartphone. I am using this smartphone for more than 2 years and it's been a good smartphone. But this doesn't happen with all people, that is what I have seen recently.

I and a few of my office friends were planning to buy a bicycle to go morning walk daily. But unfortunately, things didn't wind up correctly for us. Right now I am not in a position to invest in a bicycle but sure I will in months.
Me And one of my friends are planning to buy an electric bicycle that will cost us around 30k INR. If we choose to buy a non-electric bicycle then it will cost us around 18k INR.

One of my friends recently did get an old bicycle for free he just has to spend money to repair that. It's been around a week since the bicycle was in the mechanic shop. Yesterday he got the bicycle back and we did plan to go on a morning walk today and then we will ride the bicycle there. Everything was good in the morning I woke up early so did he and a few more friends were up today.

I was happy, to be honest, I didn't sleep last night very well but I am good maybe I was too much excited. When I took the bicycle from my house after a short write mostly 50 m apart my friends such waiting for me after that he did change his future and he started than all of the sudden the bicycle stopped working.
I left the bicycle back to my home and we went for a morning walk. He did spend around 3K INR, but still, it seems like he has to invest more in that. It was good work after a very long time. After returning from the walk we did realize the chain off the bicycle is off. So three offers decided to work on that, and after 3 to 5 minutes of labor work, we did it.

But the bicycle is still having a few problems, I think he do I have to invest more in that to make it work fine. In my opinion, he shouldn't invest more in that. Not worth it we will have more money than he can buy a brand-new gear bicycle. The rest is up to him I will try to convince him not to invest anymore. Let's see how things will go.

see you in the next post, till then keep learning and keep exploring...

Bhai, wo kahte hain naa. Mehanga roye ek baar sasta roye baar baar.
But still mein bhi bahut si cheeze second hand prefer karta hun. Its easier that way. But ek cheeze hain yaar ki koi bhi mechanical ya electroic item second hand lena bada gamble hain.
Aap to lucky nikal gaye.. mera second hand AC bahut jayda dukh de raha hain abhi tak 3 repair aa gaye aur jab Ebill aata hain to jaan jal jaati hain. Saalon ne 5star rating ki sticker laga kar mujhe chunaa laga diya

The sudden and unexpected breakdown of the cycle was very disappointing. All the excitement of the night was shattered.

I understand your point of view on purchasing second-hand items to save money, and it's true that it can be a good way to find deals and save money. Additionally, buying second-hand items can also be a more sustainable choice as it reduces the amount of waste that goes into landfills and the demand for new products.

However, it's important to keep in mind that not all second-hand items are in good condition, and there may be some risks involved in buying used products, especially if they are electronics or appliances. It's essential to thoroughly inspect the item before buying it and make sure that it functions properly and doesn't have any defects or damages.

These days start-ups are coming for the sale of used items. Cashify is great for smartphones. They always check the quality then sell them.

TBH, most of the times second hand products do last longer than the newly purchased products but there are some second hand products that should never be bought as it'll only bring with itself reckless spending. The bicycle will keep having faults in my opinion and I think you should really convince him to not fix it anymore. The money he'll keep using to fix the bicycle whenever it's faulty, if he should keep it for some time, he could get a brand new.

In some things, it is better to do as the saying goes: Buy like the rich, so that it lasts like the poor.
If I need a tool or work equipment, I try as much as possible to buy it new and with backup guarantees. Looking for the best possible quality, because I know I can't change teams every year.
Sometimes due to the situation it is not possible, and well, it is time to look for the best among what is possible.
But whenever I have an opportunity, I look for better quality, so that it lasts me for years.
