National Pride and Duty: The Case for Compulsory Service and Self-Defense Training
Well, there are many services in many countries which are mandatory and mostly one has to join the army and this is a very serious subject and a matter of great pride too. Doing anything for your country is a family affair as you can see that nowadays the Olympics are going on and many countries participate there and everyone is going there for their respective country and winning medals or not but there is a different honour in playing for your country, no matter how you are in your country, if you can do something for your country then it is a matter of pride for the whole country. Well, there are some countries where joining the service is compulsory, do a skilled service maybe for one year and this is also very good because by doing this person gets disciplined and gets to learn a lot of things like self-defence and many other things.
But where I live, there is nothing like this right now, but I think that whatever government is there, it will do something about this because as we can see, war has become a very big problem all over the world. Wars are happening everywhere, somewhere it is happening in small quantities and somewhere it is happening in large quantities and somewhere it has been going on for years. It is not that all these things can be solved in a day. Yes, problems are solved too, but many powerful countries do not want peace to prevail in the world because if this happens, they may suffer a lot of loss they would not want this and it is very sad to see how people get misled by them and start fighting wars, even if the war is started by big politicians or people sitting on high positions, and at the end only the poor people always have to pay for it.
Although there is no mandatory service in our country yet, but I think that one thing that should be implemented here is self-defense because nowadays there are many cases in which people are not able to defend themselves. If people are able to do this, then maybe some change will definitely come. Nowadays people are becoming very aware, but every day we hear many cases in which girls or weaker sections or I should say weak people are suffering, if they can learn some technique of self-defence or their protection, then it will probably help them a lot and it is also necessary. I think that in our country also, it should be made compulsory for one member of the family to go to the defense, even if it is for a few years. All these young generations should experience the life of service for 1 year because by doing this, discipline will come in them and they will learn many new things like using weapons and many other things which will prove to be very helpful in making them mentally and physically strong.
Well, our government has started a new scheme called Agni Veer in which you will have to serve for only 4 years, after that the good candidates from there will be selected for other government jobs and the remaining candidates will be retired after giving them some amount of money. This is also a good scheme but I think that because to pass this Agni Veer exam, one has to work very hard, the physical requirement of which is also very high. When this scheme was announced, there was a lot of uproar and there were riots in many cities, but gradually the matter cooled down because it happens often, the opposition party of the ruling party waits for such moments and they work to add fuel to such small fires. Even though you are getting to serve for only 4 years, you will get to learn a lot because in 4 years you will emerge as a better person, a discipline will develop within you and you can earn a good amount of money at such a young age if you use it properly, but if you spend it wastefully then you may not be able to save anything.
When I come from office, there is a temple on our way, there is a little open space there, there is a person, you can say, someone I know, he teaches Taekwondo to children, it feels very good to see this, I regret that I could not learn all this in my childhood, but I will definitely encourage my future generation or all the small children around me to learn all this and I will try my best to learn self-defence and by doing this they can also save themselves in case of trouble and can also do a lot for their country because there are very good championships of Taekwondo at the world level and I had seen the Karate Kid movie, I liked it a lot, maybe you must have also seen it, it motivated me a lot to do all this, but unfortunately my age is also increasing and maybe I do not have the same strength as before that I could learn it, still I try that I will lighten up and keep myself fit, I believe that we all should learn self-defence and we should keep working on it and if someone is teaching something then you should go and learn such a thing because it is very important.

-----Together we will make this a better place-----
When I was a teenager here in south Africa, we white bodied males had to do military service upon leaving school at 18. That was the old apartheid government in 1980s, before liberation by Mandela. I however chose to escape this by entering the Vaishnava yoga ashram as a brahmachari, where I stayed for 10 years. I did far greater service to humanity as a whole, uplifting consciousness, than I would have in the army. I suggest that there should be compulsory service but there signs be a choice- either army or monastery.

Self-defense is very important and I think training for it is a good thing. It can be done easily if the government wants to implement it. Moreover, it can be learned to compile during the time study or job whichever seems suitable.
Military-type service is a matter of great honor and anybody feels proud for such kind of service but I think it's not suitable for everyone. I think we need to implement the people in suitable places and that's good for a country.

It is a very good idea to teach the little ones to be able to protect themselves and defend others.
As always, I end up remembering a piece of advice that a self-defense teacher I met years ago told me:
It is better to avoid a fight as much as possible. Fighting is only when there is no other option.
thank you so much sir for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. yes we all should stay away from fighting but self is what we all should must learn.
