Flexibility vs. Rigidity: The Realities of Workplace Cultures
Well, everybody does a job because of compulsion. There may be a person who does not need to get a job or even if they do. Some people do jobs in the name of self-dependence, while they do not have any shortage of money and to be honest, they are not going to get anything from the money that they earn from their job. Still, they do jobs just for show. But some people are compelled to do jobs because their household expenses are met by it and their family members are dependent on them. The recharge of some jobs is very flexible and you can go there anytime as per your wish. This is rarely seen. If you work in a place like this, suppose in a factory, then the timing is fixed and there are mostly three shifts. In India, it is almost the same. Every person has to work one shift for a week. So, in such a situation, every person is prepared for all three shifts and many people also work overtime. Some people work a lot of overtime because their income in overtime doubles. In very few places you get to see that you can go whenever you want, if you are in a higher post then things are a little different because probably no one is there to ask you anything, if you are in a smaller post then probably there are a lot of restrictions on you.
If I talk about myself, I do not get much flexibility in my work. Yes, my office working days are only 5 days, but I have to work from 9:00 am to evening, sometimes even for longer hours, it all depends on how much work there is, but if my work gets finished early, then I am not even allowed to go early. So you can well understand what kind of work culture I have. If you are doing a job, then there is madness, I don't have any problem with that but I feel that if you stay to work till late and if your work gets done early then you should leave early because by sitting there you are just wasting your time. If you go home then you can do something or the other, you can spend time with your family, you can do whatever you want to do, but if you are in the office then you are within bound foundations, you cannot do everything there easily, yes in some offices you are free to do everything but in many places, you don't get all that freedom.
Yes, if I talk about my co-workers here, everyone is very friendly and cooperative as well because everyone supports each other, if someone needs help with any work and if you have to do some work outside the office, then you can go there as well, there is no restriction in this, as long as you are doing your work properly, no one has any problem, if any complaint starts coming in your work, if you are not able to complete the thing on time, then it can create a problem for you, otherwise here you have a lot of freedom if I talk about other places, then there is a lot of pressure and a lot of restrictions, in some companies you are not even allowed to use the phone, but it is not like that in our place, but still, there is work pressure, where the company grows bigger, the pressure keeps increasing and it keeps increasing especially on the old employees, it keeps increasing on the new employees as well, but responsibilities keep coming on the old employees as the company keeps growing.
Although there have been discussions about time in our company, especially about office timings, nothing comes out of it. See, if you are finishing your work on time, then maybe you can leave early, but if someone else is stuck in some work, then you will have to help him as well. In many companies, people just do their work and go home too. But here the rules are a little different and I think this is good too because you are describing your other partner less. But some people take the wrong advantage of this thing and they keep waiting for when people will come to help them. In such a case, the work culture of the office gets spoiled and in such a case, some people are overburdened and some people are spending their time there having a lot of fun. I feel that this should not be the case and if someone is coming to the office, then he should completely focus on his work, even if he does anything after office hours, nobody should be bothered about it, but when you are in the office, then you should give your 100% to the office and this is also your duty.
Well, to be honest, I consider myself very lucky that I got a job near my home and after that I get a lot of time to spend with my family and devote my time to other things, so I am thankful for this, so see, nothing is perfect, there are shortcomings everywhere, with time we learn to live with things and this is life.

That's one of the things with working a full-time job, the fact that you barely get a say on how your day goes. Your employer runs your routines. Whether or not there's something to be done, you have to sit put until closing hour. It's just the scope of the job.
