I had been wanting to write this post for days about one of the movies that for me has been the best I have seen this year 2022 and it is Hustle or Garra in Spanish. I saw it the first days of June when it was just released and I was so fascinated that this weekend I saw it again, as I have always told you, I am one of those people that when a movie captivates me I am able to see it many times and I assure you that this is going to be one of those movies.

Tenía días con ganas de escribir esta publicación sobre una de las películas que para mí ha sido la mejor que he visto este año 2022 y se trata de Hustle o Garra en español. La vi los primero días de junio cuando recién la estrenaron y de verdad que quedé tan fascinada que este fin de semana la volví a ver, es que como siempre les he dicho, soy de las personas que cuando una película me cautiva soy capaz de verla muchísimas veces y les aseguro que esta va a ser una de esas películas.

Plot // Trama

Stanley Sugerman (Adam Sandler) is an NBA scout who travels the world looking for young prospects with particular talents, but because he is so good at what he does, the athletes he visits fail to meet his demands. Until he meets Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangomez) in Spain, a young man with a natural talent who has had to sacrifice his life to fulfill the responsibility of being a father and breadwinner.

Not having the approval of his team to sign the boy, who is at the age limit for an NBA signing, Stanley decides to take him to the United States on his own, convinced that he will be a star thanks to his talent, the only thing he needs is to be seen by the right person. Later he will realize that he needs more than that.

Stanley Sugerman (Adam Sandler) es un cazatalentos para la NBA que va por el mundo buscando jóvenes prospecto con talentos particulares, pero al ser tan bueno en lo hace, los atletas que visita no logran cumplir con sus exigencias. Hasta que en España conoce a Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangómez) un joven con un talento natural quien a tenido que sacrificar su vida para cumplir con la responsabilidad de ser padre y sostento de hogar.

Al no tener la aprobación de su equipo para firmar al muchacho, quien está en la edad tope para una firma en la NBA, Stanley decide llevarlo a Estados Unidos por su cuenta, muy convencido que será una estrella gracias a su talento, lo único que necesita es ser visto por la persona adecuada. Después se dará cuenta que necesita más que eso.

My opinion // Mi opinión

As I said at the beginning it is the best movie I have seen this year. Actually it is not because of the sport, since I am not a basketball fan, but I think the story can be significant for any sport, such as baseball, where there are children who practice this sport since they are 3 years old, while there are others who have a natural talent that only need to be discovered and there are thousands of stories where talent scouts find them in the streets playing rubber ball, chapita or as we call them in my country, in a caimanera. This means in street games without any conditioning.

Como dije al principio es la mejor película que he visto este año. En realidad no es por el deporte, ya que no soy fanática del Baloncesto, pero pienso que la historia puede ser significativa para cualquier deporte, como por ejemplo el béisbol, donde hay niños que practican este deporte desde los 3 años de edad, mientras que hay otros que tienen un talento natural que solo necesitan ser descubiertos y hay miles de historia donde buscadores de talentos los encuentran en las calles jugando pelotica de goma, chapita o como les llamamos en mi país, en una caimanera. Esto quiere decir en juegos callejeros sin ningún condicionamiento.

I loved seeing Adam Sandler in the character of Stanley Sugerman, a 52 year old man with all the knowledge in his field and not giving up hope of becoming a basketball coach 🏀. It's the first time I didn't see him making a bunch of faces to make people laugh. It was a very natural thing although he also had that humorous touch in his speech that characterizes him and that I like very much. Throughout the film I felt his concern, joy, pride and helplessness as my own, he had never transmitted so many feelings in the same film. This is an actor who lately has shown a lot of versatility, playing very dramatic characters, but I particularly prefer him in comedy movies. In fact, most of my favorite movies, those that I watch and still don't get bored are Sandler's, among them, They're Like Children, A Wife of Lies, As If It Were the First Time, Family Honeymoon and now I will add to my list this one that I really loved. So every time he releases a movie I always have to watch it.

Me encantó ver a Adam Sandler en el personaje de Stanley Sugerman, un hombre de 52 años de edad con todo el conocimiento en su área y que no pierde las esperanzas de convertirse en entrenador de baloncesto 🏀. Es la primera vez que no lo veo haciendo un montón de caras para hacer reír. Fue algo muy natural aunque también tenía ese toque humorístico en el parlamento que lo caracteriza y que me gusta mucho. Durante toda la película sentí su preocupación, alegría, orgullo y su impotencia como mía, nunca me había transmitido tantos sentimientos en una misma película. Este es un actor que últimamente a demostrado mucha versatilidad llegando a interpretar personajes muy dramaticos pero particularmente yo lo prefiero en las peliculas de comedia. Es más, la mayoría de mis películas favoritas, aquellas que veo y sigo sin aburrirme son de Sandler, entre ellas, Son Como Niños, Una esposa de mentiras, Como si fuera la primera vez, Luna de miel en familia y ahora añadiré a mi lista esta que de verdad me encantó. Así que cada vez que estrena una película siempre tengo que verla.

Now let's talk about Queen Latifah, perfect in her role as Teresa, Sugerman's wife, I loved this sympathetic character, accomplice, who at all times supports her husband even if he did what she asked him to do, and then she got nervous 🤭. Latifah we are used to see her in comedy movies, and I loved the duo she did with Adam, you could feel the chemistry between them. As soon as I saw her in this character I remembered her in that romantic comedy movie Just Wright, where the plot is also about basketball, I had the idea in my head that it was the same character since Teresa is also a connoisseur and fan of this sport just like Leslie in Just Wright.

Ahora hablemos de Queen Latifah, perfecta en su papel de Teresa, esposa de Sugerman, me encantó este personaje comprensivo, cómplice, que en todo momento apoya a su esposo aunque el hiciera lo que ella le pedía, y después a ella le dieran nervios 🤭. A Latifah estamos acostumbrados a verla en películas de comedia, me encantó la dupla que hizo con Adam, se sentía la química entre ellos. Apenas la vi en este personaje la recordé en aquella película de comedia romántica Just Wright, donde también la trama es sobre baloncesto, me hacia la idea en la cabeza que era el mismo personaje ya que Teresa también es conocedora y fanática de este deporte al igual que Leslie en Just Wright.

Bo Cruz is played by professional basketball player Juancho Hernangómez, a Spanish national like his character, this is his first participation as an actor. I think that despite not being an established actor he was very good playing this introverted but talented young man with a strong character. Bo, little by little he will learn that he is his only competition and that he cannot let himself be affected, because they cannot kill you if you are already dead.

Bo Cruz es interpretado por el basquetbolista profesional Juancho Hernangómez, de nacionalidad española igual que su personaje, esta es su primera participación como actor. Me parece que a pesar de no ser un actor consolidado estuvo muy bien interpretando a este joven introvertido pero con un talento y un carácter fuerte. Bo, poco a poco aprenderá que él es su única competencia y que no se puede dejar afectar, porque no te pueden matar si ya estás muerto.

Esta es una película que muestra que no importa si tienes talento para un deporte, porque de igual maneras tienes que trabajar mucho para alcanzar una meta, debes querer alcanzar tu sueños y demostrar que quieres hacerlo trabajando diariamente sin descanso. Tengo un hijo de 12 años que juega béisbol desde los 5 y él y todos sus compañeros de equipo han visto esta película porque es importante que internalicen que el éxito no llega solo, debes trabajar para conseguirlo, al igual que es importante la actitud, es un punto indispensable para todos los que quieran dedicar su vida al deporte, a ningún equipo profesional les gustan los propectos malcriados, engreídos, problemáticos. Es decir, con mala actitud.

As I said I'm not a Basketball fan 🏀 so I liked the movie for everything I just described, but for sure a fan of this sport will love to see in the same movie many of their favorite players even in very small characters. Anyway, to all the people I have talked to I always recommend watching this movie and in the same way I will do it with you dear reader. Como dije no soy fanática del Baloncesto 🏀 así que la película me gustó por todo lo que acabo de describir, pero de seguro un fanático de este deporte le encantará ver en una misma película a muchos de sus jugadores favoritos así sea en personajes muy pequeños.
