I was scammed In person

In 2021 on the 18th of April on this fateful day I took a break from work to go get food, i heard someone calling me from behind, I turned and looked at him behold it was a young man at about 25 to 30 years. He was holding a bank form and portray himself as a marketer in United bank of Africa. He started talking to me and ask for my name I answered him and he said he would love to get to know me more. Before then I had already said I would like to get to know people more and I remembered I said to my self that I would love to have new friends since I’m always indoors.

When this happens I felt it might be the universe that answered me, we spoke for few minutes and he even offer to buy me lunch which he later did. We exchanged numbers and I went my way, in the night he called and we started this serious conversations from hobbies, family, relationships and finally then to work. I told him about my personal side hustle and that I sell UK iPhones, he said he is also into something like that as a side hustle apart from working in a bank, as a matter of fact he has someone running the business for him but the person is not doing well and he really needs someone that knows the business very well and would like to invest with the person.

I found it very interesting 🤔 and thought about it too, I even told my close friends and they all said it a good deal considering the way he explained it to me. He also told me about a job in the bank but this particular one you don’t have to come to the bank for it all you just have to do is open an account with them and make an advert for them everyday on your social media platforms, especially if you have more than 1000 followers.
The pay would be 11 dollars everyday and it for 3 weeks, I saw it as a good 👍 things since I don’t have to stress my self all I just need to do is to post about it on my social media platforms.

That day was on Monday and he said he would help me register on Friday, I remember I was looking forward to that time and was really happy I got a side job that is less stressful. On Tuesday he called me with a different number and he said the number was for his dad and that I shouldn’t call it at any given time. Despite all these he still told me he likes me a lot and would want us to be a couple so that we can do the business as family and he even said he would like me to come spend the weekend in his house. I was thrown off a bit because I see it as nonsense for me to just know you for a few days and you already asking me to come and spend the weekend in your house.I refused and told him to just focus on the business we are about to do.

Before the Friday we were still talking on phones and on that D-day , he called and said we would be meeting at about 11am. He later came to pick me and we got to the bank. He asked me to wait and then when to one of the cashiers and spoke to her, he later came back and we both went upstairs of the bank. We got there and he greeted this particular account officer, with that gesture I removed every fear in me. I was given a form by the account officer and I sat down and started filling it , while I was doing that he asked me if he could help me with the app on my phone and gave it to him and continue writing, he was behind me.

I wanted to use my phone to copy my bank verification number, I turned and he was nowhere to be found. I waited for a few minutes believing he just stepped out and he is coming back but I waited for almost 2 hours and he still wasn’t back and then the account officer asked me if I know him, it was then I realized I have been scammed of my phone. I almost ran mad and I started crying , I later found out he came to the bank before then and asked if he can open a fixed account for his friend and then said he would have to come with the person. He wasn’t working there he only uses this scheme to steal peoples phones from them.

They told me they don’t know him and he just came that morning to ask them that. I couldn’t believe I had been duped of my iPhone 📱 right before my eyes , I couldn’t call anyone because that’s my only phone. I went straight down to the banks I use and blocked all my account so he doesn’t withdraw the money there since my bvn is stored on that phone. The next few days I was able to buy a new phone and retrieved my number, fixed everything and even posted on my WhatsApp, I saw that he viewed my status.

All my call logs were intact since I backed them up in my iCloud. I decided to call the other number he used to call me one time mt intention was to report to his dad since he said the number belongs to his dad . I dialed the number and a lady picked it, I was surprised but then we talked and I later found out the lady was also duped in exactly the same way but then in a different bank. She said she just retrieved her sim card too.

I do hear of people complaining about how they were scammed and always refuse to believe any of that. I felt they were just not wise but I was totally wrong they use different ways and different patterns, and I was a victim of this new pattern. I learnt my lessons and make sure I tell people around me about this for them to also be careful and smart.
