Hello, people of the internet, everything alright? Today I want to show you this film, which, although it has quite a few hits, there was something that prevented me from liking it, here's the review of "Knock at the Cabin"
Hola, gente de internet ¿todo bien? Hoy quiero enseñarles esta película, la cual, aunque tiene bastantes aciertos, hubo algo que evitó que terminara de agradarme, a continuación, la review de Knock at the Cabin
Eric and Andrew go on holiday to a lakeside cottage with their daughter Wen. Upon arrival, they are accosted by four strangers who burst into their home proclaiming that the end of the world is near and the family of three must make a difficult decision.
Eric y Andrew van de vacaciones a una cabaña junto al lago en compañía de su hija Wen, nada más arribar, cuatro desconocidos los abordan e irrumpen en su casa proclamando que el fin del mundo se acerca y la familia de tres debe tomar una difícil decisión.
I'm going to start with the positive aspects of the film. The cinematography is gorgeous, the forest location is hauntingly beautiful, and the film has some amazing shots, some of them even quite strange but striking.
Voy a empezar por los aspectos positivos de la película. La fotografía es preciosa, la locación en el bosque es inquietantemente hermosa y además, la película posee unos planos asombrosos, algunos incluso bastante extraños pero llamativos.
The colour palette is linear and even warm for what it should be in a thriller, but even so the setting makes you think something is wrong and the use of warmth helps to increase the sense of overwhelm precisely because of the confusion it offers the viewer.
La paleta de colores es lineal e incluso es cálida para lo que debería en una película de suspenso, pero aún así la ambientación te hace pensar que algo no anda bien, y el recurso de calidez ayuda a incrementar el agobio precisamente por la confusión que ofrece en el espectador.
The character development and performances are top notch, there are no bad actors anywhere. Each of them conveys the feelings of their characters to perfection and because the story is told from the family's point of view, you feel the overwhelm and stress caused by the situation they are in.
El desarrollo de personajes y las actuaciones son de 10, no hay mal actor por ningún lado. Cada uno de ellos te transmite las sensaciones de sus personajes a la perfección, y dado a que la historia se cuenta desde el punto de vista de la familia, sientes el agobio y el estrés causado por la situación en la que están.
As many of you know, one of my favourite actors is Rupert Grint, and his character in this film is quite scary, I would say the scariest of the 4 strangers. His character is irascible and violent as well as a bit erratic which makes him a ticking time bomb. I loved Rupert's staging in this film.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, uno de mis actores preferidos es Rupert Grint, y su personaje en esta cinta es bastante aterrador, diría que es el más aterrador de los 4 desconocidos. Su personaje es irascible y violento, además de un poco errático, lo que lo hace una bomba de tiempo. Amé la puesta de escena de Rupert en esta película.
The dynamism of the film is also great, as soon as it starts it is non-stop, the development of the characters is used through very well positioned and worked flashbacks, this is how the spectator does not get bored watching the interesting part at the same time that he does not lose details of who the main characters are and as the flashbacks are well worked, there is no room for boredom during these scenes either.
El dinamismo de la película también es genial, apenas empieza ya es un no parar, el desarrollo de personajes se emplea a través de flashbacks muy bien posicionados y trabajados, es así como el espectador no se aburre mirando la parte interesante a la vez que no pierde detalles de quienes son los personajes principales y como están bien trabajados los flashback, tampoco hay cabida al aburrimiento durante estas escenas.
So what is the problem with this film? I think it's the story, and yes, I know the film is based on a book, but since we are analysing the film, whether the story is written for the film or based on a book, it is part of it. It is likely that from here on you will find possible spoilers, so if you don´t want to know them, better stop reading here.
¿Entonces cuál es el problema con esta película? Pues creo que es su historia, y sí, sé que la película se basa en un libro, pero dado a que estamos analizando la película, quiera que no, la historia sea escrita para la película o se base en un libro, forma parte de ella. Es probable que a partir de aquí encuentres posibles spoilers, así que si no es lo tuyo saberlos, mejor detén la lectura aquí.
One of my problems is that at the beginning it raises the possibility that the 4 strangers belong to a cult led by Redmond (Rupert Grint) who had previously attacked one of the little girl's parents (as he was homophobic) he wants to drive the couple in the cottage mad, We can understand that Redmond is so crazy that he is capable of allowing himself to be killed in order to fulfil his revenge, and this is reinforced by the fact that at the time of the events, he has a false name, but as the director of the film (M. Night Shyamalan) is the king of the Twist plot, so in the end the four strangers tell the truth, ruining what we are presented in the beginning, and making the event of Redmond's attack in the bar something totally unnecessary for the plot, as it has no connection and argumentatively it would not make sense to mention it, not even to try to confuse the viewer because it would be falling into a cheap and shallow resource.
Uno de mis problemas es que al principio se plantea la posibilidad de que los 4 extraños pertenezcan a una secta liderada por Redmond (Rupert Grint) quien previamente había atacado a uno de los padres de la pequeña (ya que era homofóbico) él quieren volver loca a la pareja de la cabaña, y vengarse de ambos ya que fue preso por el ataque (una idea bastante interesante y que tiene todo el sentido del mundo) Podemos entender que Redmond es tan loco que es capaz de permitir que lo maten por cumplir su venganza, y lo refuerza el hecho de que para el momento de los hechos, tenga un nombre falso, pero como el director de la cinta (M. Night Shyamalan) es el rey del Twist plot, entonces al final los 4 extraños dicen la verdad, echando por tierra lo que se nos presenta en un principio, y haciendo que el evento del ataque de Redmond en el bar sea algo totalmente innecesario para la trama, ya que no guarda conexión y argumentativamente no tendría sentido mencionarlo, ni siquiera para intentar confundir al espectador porque seria caer en un recurso barato y sin profundidad.
On the other hand it is mentioned that these 4 strangers are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, Redmond is the malice, Leonard is the guide, Adrian is the food and Sabrina is the health, but they didn't even take the time to find out the real meaning of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse which are war, plague, famine and death... already at this point in the dialogue, the plot felt ridiculous.
Por otro lado se menciona que estos 4 extraños son los 4 jinetes del apocalipsis, Redmond es la malicia, Leonard es la guía, Adrian es el alimento y Sabrina la salud, pero ni siquiera se tomaron el tiempo de averiguar el significado real de los 4 jinetes del apocalipsis, los cuales son guerra, peste, hambre y muerte... ya a este punto del dialogo, la trama se sentía ridícula.
The final "explanation" of why the 3 of them were responsible for ending or saving the world by making a sacrifice was even more absurd and ridiculous, according to Eric, they were chosen for it because they had a very pure love and because they had fought to be together and to raise their family, fighting also to have their daughter, then I say... That in all of humanity there are no more pure unions (hetero or homo) that have fought to be together, have a pure love and fight to have a daughter? It's the most mediocre explanation I've ever come across in a film, it's forced in there, it feels horribly forced and thanks to the stupidity of this dialogue, the part of the drama that was supposed to hurt and reach the viewer, feels ridiculous (and it's not the fault of the actors, but the story and the dialogue of this part).
Ya la "explicación" final de porqué ellos 3 eran los responsables de acabar o salvar al mundo haciendo un sacrificio fue aun más absurda y ridícula, según Eric, ellos fueron elegidos para ello porque tenían un amor muy puro y porque habían luchado por estar juntos y sacar adelante a su familia, luchando también por lograr tener a su hija, entonces digo yo... ¿Qué en toda la humanidad no hay más uniones puras (hetero u homo) que hayan luchado por estar juntos, tengan un amor puro y luchen por tener una hija? Es la explicación más mediocre que me he encontrado dentro de una película, está puesto y metido ahí a la fuerza, se siente horriblemente forzado y gracias a lo estúpido de este dialogo, la parte del drama que se suponía debía doler y llegar al espectador, se siento ridículo (y no es culpa de los actores, sino de la historia y el dialogo de esta parte)
I can't give a verdict because I can't say the film is good, as the only flaw it has is serious and huge, but I can't say it's bad either, because that doesn't do justice to the spectacular elements the film has, in the end, it's better that you judge for yourselves:
No puedo dar un veredicto ya que no puedo decir que la película sea buena, porque el único fallo que tiene es grave y enorme, pero tampoco puedo decir que sea mala, porque eso no hace justicia a los elementos espectaculares que tiene la película, al final, es mejor que juzguen ustedes mismos:

Le tengo ganas desde hace tiempo, especialmente porque quiero ver a Dave Bautista participando en roles más series y Shyamalan suele hacer películas muy interesantes.
Claro, tienes que verla además asi haces tu propio criterio :3
He visto algunas cosas de esta película, pero no termina de convencerme, así como en tu caso, siempre deseo ver una buena historia, si bien la fotografía y las actuaciones son decentes, se diluyen si no forman parte de un guion interesante.

La verdad no tenía idea de qué trataba está película, la había visto por ahí y me llamaba la atención por la actuación de Rupert también, ahora que leí tu reseña tengo ciertas dudas de verla. Se escucha bastante absurda hacía el final, creo que estaría igual que tú. Sin embargo, me da cierta curiosidad.
Aún cuando califico un película de pésima, nunca disuado a la gente de verla ya que cada quién tiene su propia opinión y apreciación de determinado trabajo audiovisual, te podría decir que la vieses para que hagas tu propio criterio y que la ames, la odies, o te de igual
Estoy de acuerdo en varios puntos, creo que tal vez uno de los problemas principales es como usted dice, al ser una película basada en un libro, Shyamalan busco una manera de hacerla suya y por eso decidió realizar cambios y tal vez eso sea lo que afecte el film aunque yo creo que es entendible dichos cambios, ya que imagino que quería explorar la decisión que debe tomar está pareja de padres con respecto a quién debería criar a su hija y que mundo dejarle, en eso es entendible el cambio y aquí llego a otro problema y es lo predecible de esa decisión.
A pesar de todo eso, a mí me entretuvo y se que no es lo mejor del repertorio de este director, peor diré que me gustó más que OLD.
Si bien la historia se basa en un libro (y los cambios que realizó el director fueron acertados, ya que en el libro es peor) lo hago responsable por elegir esa historia propiamente para uno de sus trabajos, quiero decir, si yo fuese directora y me encuentro una historia así, o bien no la escojo para hacer uno de mis trabajos o la escojo pero aclaro que haré un reboot para mejorar los aspectos insatisfactorios de la misma, de hecho yo hubiese apostado por la idea principal de Andrew de que todo era un complot de una especie de secta, hubiese sido mucho más interesante y aterradora, ya que el tráiler nos la vende como una peli de suspenso.
Bien respetando la historia original o haciendo ligeros cambios, la historia en sí no funciona y es por eso que en mi opinión personal, la película no trasciende pese a sus características (al resto quiero decir) tan excelsas como son las actuaciones, fotografía, ambientación, etc. Muchas gracias por leer :3
Estoy viendo esta película, la primera parte me tiene intrigada porque no se todavía a qué vienen estos cuatro personajes. Debo terminarla.

Para mi una de las peliculas mas mala del 2023, no me gusto para nada la trama tan distorcionada que presenta. Y aunque el trailer te llena de miestrio e intriga la pelicula es predecible y los giros argumentales son debiles, pero gracias por compartir tu opinion.
Me la vi hace unos días y sinceramente debo decir que tiene cosas por destacar, como dices, la fotografía es muy bonita, al igual que la ambientación, las actuaciones están cheveres, sobre todo la de Dave Bautista a mi parecer, de resto, el guión es raro, tiene agujeros de guión, cosas ocurren porque sí y las explicaciones que dan son algo rebuscadas, como lo de los jinetes del apocalipsis, aunque tengo que admitir que la película me supo enganchar bastante bien, incluso cuando ya te estás dando cuenta de todo. Yo tenía la teoría de que todo era por un monstruo lovecraftniano o algo así pero cuando ví lo de los jinetes del apocalipsis me desilusioné jajaja.
