A MISINTERPRETATION

Emma met Michael in church and they immediately synced, he would spend time after church talking to her about random weird things and even when she was home they’d talk about random things. She had never been in anything serious so she thought to herself what if he was the one, what if he has been who I’ve been waiting for. He’s already perfect, he has a good job, knows how to take care of me and treats me nice. She had already started imagining what they’re future would hold, how many kids they’d have and what kind of wife and mother she’d be, Emma was smitten to say the least.
Emma told her friend about Michael and Rita asked her,” did he ask you out, you know, did he make his intentions known to you”. Emma thought deeply about this and realized that he had treated her exactly the same way he was treating other members, but he calls to check up on her regularly but what if that’s just his way of evangelism, what if it wasn’t real. All the spiraling thoughts and emotions left her breathless, “okay it’s fine, I’ll just find out by myself on Sunday”, but come to think of it I haven’t gone to his house before, was I just obsessing over a man, no that’s impossible, she soliloquised.
On Sunday Emma went to church and saw Michael talking to a girl she’d never noticed before, the pastor almost immediately stood up and said a brother met him over the week and will soon be getting married, Emma almost sighed wishing it was her, then the pastor said brother Michael and sister Sarah congratulations. Everyone stood up to congratulate them, but emma sat petrified at what she had just heard, when she finally came around it was to take a brisk walk outside and throw up, “I must be hallucinating no this can’t be real, no, no'' she screamed, almost immediately Michael came outside and approached emma,”emma are you okay, you don’t look so good”, she turned slowly to face him “Michael you’re getting married, I thought you were interested in me”. Michael suddenly laughed, that laugh that drew her to him, that laughter that would always make her smile but now wasn’t the time for smiling, “Emma you almost had me, bro this your acting is so believable if someone didn’t know you they’d think you were serious, anyway I’ll call you this evening take care of yourself” he walked back in to church still chuckling. What!, is that the signals I sent across to him, emma said as she started walking down the busy road, did I really make him believe I was his bro, did he never view me as a woman. A lot of thoughts spiraled through her head, Emma walked and walked and walked until her legs hurt, she turned around wondering how long she’d been walking, how far away she had come. She crumbled down and started crying,”why couldn’t he just say he didn’t love me, why make me believe he did just to hurt me why”, she said this whilst muffling a sob.
