Dear friends of the communities that make up HIVE, after greeting you and thanking you for reading and appreciating this post that wants to show the architectural richness of one of the most varied and unique shopping centers of its kind in the Venezuelan capital. I attended the place to witness a performance by the Venezuelan writer and artist Sara Gebran, who lives in the USA, following the presentation of her book Quantum Society. For this reason, I took the opportunity to capture some places in the Shopping Center to share them with all of you. I would also like to invite you to read the post by Professor Marcos Milano, published in this same community, in July of last year, under the title: "Las Mercedes, Baruta municipality"
https://peakd.com/hive-178708/@marcosmilano71/eng-las-mercedes-baruta-municipality-esp-las-mercedes-municipio-baruta, which covers this Mall splendidly.

The “Paseo Las Mercedes” Shopping Center, located at the end of the main avenue of the Mercedes urbanization, in the Baruta Municipality of the Miranda State, was built between 1969 and 1974; A work designed between 1969-1971 by the architect Walter James Alcock, it consists of the Shopping Center itself, with four floors with the capacity to house more than 150 stores, and the 10-floor Hotel tower, with 220 rooms, currently closed for renovations. In total, the complex covers an area of 80,000 square meters. For many, the Paseo las Mercedes Shopping Center represents the best modern architecture in Caracas from the late 1970s.

imagen.png
Partially sliding and transparent vault above the Shopping Center that allows entrance excellent lighting and natural air (Bóveda parcialmente deslizante y transparente encima del Centro comercial que permite la entrada de excelente iluminación y de aire natural)

The structure proposes the idea of an interior patio, reminiscent of an open central street in a town, with a sliding and transparent vault at the north end, which allows the generous entrance of sunlight and when opened allows the entrance of the required ventilation. The courtyard, the backbone of the Shopping Center, has been decorated with rich vegetation, which gives the sensation of being in an open square; its structure combines porticoes with metal mezzanines, and the floors are red ceramic, which contrasts with the greenery of the plants planted there.

imagen.png
View of one of the elevators whose walls are covered in white ceramic with abstract shapes (Vista de unos de los ascensores cuyas paredes están revestidas de cerámica blanca con formas abstractas)

One detail is that the ceramic with reliefs form abstract murals, and on some walls, you can see the brick that makes up the elements of this Shopping Center from the date of its launch in the 70s of the last century.

One of the columns lined with mirrors that enlarges and changes the perspective
of part of Trasnocho Cultural (Una de las columnas forrada de espejos que

At the end of the designated interior patio, there is a warm place, which looks more like a series of alleys in a small town named "La Cuadra" with beautiful boutique-type shops.

imagen.png
Main facade of the shopping center (Fachada principal del Centro comercial)

In the Shopping Center, there is a variety of premises such as the usual commercial stores, food places, and cafeterias, which fundamentally face the central square, a center where musical groups of different genres often perform, to the delight of music lovers, exhibitions and their well-known Christmas designs with trains, snowmen, the giant Christmas tree and the presentation of Christmas carols.

In La Cuadra this water fountain gives the feeling of being in a small square (En La Cuadra esta fuente de agua da la sensación de encontrase en una pequeña plaza)

The basement has been developed as an important space for holding cultural events, so there we can find the "El Trasnocho" multiplex, a special place for moviegoers who want to see non-commercial films, a theater, galleries, bookstores, restaurants, and cafes, which offer a cultural dynamic that is uncommon in other shopping centers in the city.

The Paseo las Mercedes Shopping Center was declared, by the Institute of Cultural Heritage, as "Asset of Cultural Interest of the Nation" in July 2005 and by the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of Baruta as "Urban Facilities of Municipal Interest." Therefore, the inhabitants of the city must be aware of its protection and conservation.

with 3 floors, was intervened by theartis and architect Domingo Álvarez with a work
with light, fixed mirrors and other mobiles, which seeks to modify the perception

imagen.png
In the part called "El Trasnocho" the decoration, ceilings, floors and shops
are totally different from the rest of the shopping center (En la parte llamada

imagen.png
The structure above the Inner-Central Courtyard is shaped curvy at all four corners

imagen.png
Mirrored columns give a repetitive view of the structure (Las columnas con espejos

imagen.png
The floor, the ceilings, the varied colors and windows make La Cuadra a very cozy place.

imagen.png
In La Cuadra there are these beautiful balconies typical of colonial Venezuelan towns (En La Cuadra hay estos bellos balcones típicos de pueblos venezolanos coloniales)

imagen.png
In the central courtyard you can see, in addition to the garden, a water fountain and a clock (En el patio central se pueden apreciar, además de la jardinería, una fuente de agua y un reloj)

imagen.png

Watch out for the human traffickers at hivefest. You wont know it until its too late. STAY AWAY! Beware, traffickers can be women or men! They will act nice until they dont. There is human trafficking going on around this type of crypto. I have witnessed it. They literally have attempted my murder and are trying to kill me with V2K and RNM. Five years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism ..... https://ecency.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem if you run into one of them you may want to immediately shoot them in the face. 187, annihilate, asphyxiate, assassinate, behead, bleed, bludgeon, boil, bomb, bone, burn, bury, butcher, cap, casket, choke, chop, club, crucify, crush, curb, decapitate, decimate, deflesh, demolish, destroy, devein, disembowel, dismember, drown, electrocute, eliminate, end, euthanize, eviscerate, execute, explode, exterminate, extinguish, finish, fry, grind, guillotine, gut, hack, hang, hit, ice, implode, incinerate, kill, liquidate, lynch, massacre, maul, microwave, mutilate, neutralize, obliterate, off, pop, poison, punnish, quarter, ruin, shank, shock, shoot, shred, skin, slay, slaughter, smoke, smother, snipe, snuff, squish, stab, strangle, stone, suffocate, suicide, SWAT, swing, terminate, torture, terrorize, whack, waste, wreck. I think that since that decade when this mall was built until a little bit more of the 90's, there was an important construction boom of many commercial and financial structures in the whole municipality of Baruto, and well those are the traces of many of those structures that are still working. Greetings !

Good morning, Wilfredocav. Indeed, many small and medium-sized shopping centers have been built in the Baruta Municipality in recent years; however, what I like the most about Paseo las Mercedes is that a shopping center assumes the cultural part as significantly important, something that may be the only one in the city of Caracas. In addition to being structurally beautiful and welcoming. Thank you for your comment and happy rest of the week.

The first thing that makes a huge impression and literally takes your breath away in El Paseo las Mercedes is the presence of so much vegetation in its central part. Then come the mirrors, the transparent vaulted roof and all the other details of its curious design (recreating a whole new city? A city within a city?) It's as if entering this building you find yourself in some magical place, a whole other dimension.
I admit, this place attracted me from your first photo, dear @besamu. I was recently at a large shopping mall in my country, where from the first floor I noticed the huge plants hanging from the top floor. Well, when I got to this top floor, it turned out to be artificial plants, and that was a huge disappointment to me - a beautiful design, but artificial. Not like here.

Hello jhonnygo, in effect, visitors to shopping centers have dropped precipitously due to the economic crisis, with the help of the pandemic. However, many businesses have remained standing, waiting for the storm to subside. Fraternal greetings and thank you for your comment
