“Reminiscence” by Domenico Helmeyer - November 2020 (“Reminiscencia” por Domenico Helmeyer - noviembre 2020)

Good morning or afternoon, dear readers of this community, today I have the immense pleasure of showing you the works that have been carried out on the walls of the Los Palos Grandes urbanization, in the city of Caracas, in the last three years and that constitute a work of singular importance for the enjoyment of residents and visitors to the area. All photos were taken by myself in July 2022.

“A blessed in Los Palos Grandes (LPG)”, by (Edo)Eduardo Sanabria. The blessed in question is Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, who was recently beatified by the Catholic Church (“Un beato en Los Palos Grandes (LPG)”, por (Edo)Eduardo Sanabria.

image.png
“A blessed in LPG” It is located at the beginning of the first avenue of Los Palos Grandes, between the first transversal and Francisco de Miranda avenue (“Un beato en LPG” se encuentran al comienzo de la primera avenida de Los Palos Grandes, entre la primera transversal y la avenida Francisco de Miranda)

The severe deterioration of the walls of family residences and commercial buildings in the Los Palos Grandes urbanization, located in the Chacao Municipality of Miranda State, which is part of Greater Caracas, motivated a group of neighbors to join together in a reconquest of public spaces to improve the habitat and therefore recover part of the once lost quality of life, accompanied by some plastic artists such as the well-known cartoonist Eduardo Sanabria (EDO).

“El Ávila from north to south” or “El Ávila in additive lines” by Rosario Tovar (“El Ávila de norte a sur” o “El Ávila en líneas aditivas” por Rosario Tovar)

Thus, in 2019, the “Los Palos Grandes de noche” team emerged, with 19 people, made up of architects, engineers, designers, and art lovers, all neighbors, with the aim of commemorating the 90 years of the urbanization, coordinated by the councilor and cultural promoter Domenico Helmeyer, a Venezuelan of Dutch parents, who set out to create spaces to recover nightlife and, at the same time, rescue public spaces, in the hands of the common underworld, with the help of the neighbors. To achieve this, he created a project called "Living kineticism" as a way of paying tribute to the great Venezuelan kinetic artists Alejandro Otero, Cruz-Diez, Jesús Soto, and Juvenal Ravelo.

The initial group, made up of neighbors, including architects and designers, was joined by the 5 girls members of the Mandala Callejero group, who have experience painting walls in various areas of Caracas; the self-taught painter Leonel González and the graphic designer Carolina Quevedo also joined the founding team. The initiative had the support of art galleries in the area, a paint factory, the condominium boards of the buildings, and many of the businesses established in Los Palos Grandes, in addition to the Chacao Mayor's Office.

In the midst of a pandemic, which practically paralyzed all kinds of public activity, the members of the team managed to overcome the obstacles and, following biosafety measures, managed to paint 26 murals throughout the urbanization, covering some of its walls and kiosks with a rainbow of colors, achieving, in this way, turning the area into a place for the aesthetic enjoyment of its residents and visitors.

I think it is a wonderful publication. I admire the work of the entire work team for improving both the structure of the murals and giving it that lively aspect with the thousands of paints used, I love the color so vivid that it gives that feeling of well-being

The most interesting aspect of the paintings engraved on the wall for me is that they have a three-dimensional structure. I felt like I was touching the wall. Congratulations on a great content 🎊

Hello dear Bilgin, Thank you very much for your comment on my post about the street art of Los Palos Grandes in Caracas. You are right, most paintings are done in three dimensions, the depth of which gives the feeling that you can enter them. Receive my best regards

Hello. I absolutely agree with you. This kind of art is almost non-existent in my region. You're welcome 🙂
