Strolling to Work: Sydney Botanic Gardens (Australia)
This past week, I have had a pretty pleasant stay in Sydney. The weather has been good, sunny but not very warm (not raining is a lucky bonus at the moment in Sydney!) which means that I'm quite motivated to walk to work! That says a lot, because I'm usually not really crazily motivated to walk places too often... and my wife always says that I live a healthier lifestyle when I'm away than when I'm back at home... I walk, I sleep earlier, and I eat more fruit and veg!
Anyway... all of that aside, I have a half hour walk in from the hotel where I'm staying to the city where I'm rehearsing and will later do performances.... and as luck would have it, I do get to walk through the Sydney Botanic Gardens in the mornings! In the evenings, I'm not so lucky, and it is dark and most of the gates that I would use are closed, and so I have been taking the train a single stop to get back to my bed.
So, from the top of these stairs... that is my destination in the background.. the CBD of Sydney! These stairs are quite pleasant to be going down... but I did make the trip in the reverse direction on one early finish in the late afternoon, and it is much less pleasant going the opposite direction when lugging around an instrument case and a day pack!
Continuing the stroll a bit further... I get to where the Navy appears to house a few of their ships on one side of this pier... restaurants and cafes down one side, and on the opposite side was the Navy ships. I didn't really feel that comfortable taking pictures of the ships... just in case! But I did take pictures of the cafe side of things!
A little bit further away, and I had a bit of a upwards climb... but it was a nice little scene! Bringing me to...
... the road that is just opposite the Botanic Gardens!
Heading up the road and up the slight incline, I found myself opposite the currently renovating Art Gallery, and at one of the gates through to the Botanic Gardens.
At this point, I'm going to stop writing and just share the photos of my walk through the gardens. There was some sort of weekend family event with lots of science and maths themed stalls... and most importantly, little coffee stands. But once you were past that initial crush of people, there was just a pleasant stroll through one set of paths that line the gardens.
There are quite a few more paths that I could have taken, but I did have a particular route in mind... after all, I wasn't just here to to drink in the sights, but I did have to get to work! Perhaps a different time, I will take the route that lines the Harbour... but this time, it was past the vegetable gardens, and through along the inland route to exit out near the Circular Quay gates.
Enjoy!!!!

I haven't spent much time here lately so it looks like a missed some updates. Have you moved to Australia?
Yes, arrived back into the homeland about half a year ago... enjoying it, but having moments of missing our old adopted homeland as well!
Must be a big change again. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying that :) Who knows, maybe you will visit your old adopted homeland again :)
I hope so... there are so many friends that we left behind there!
I've been meaning to visit Sydney's botanical gardens... last time I was there though, we didn't get the chance. Planning another trip at some point though; gotta take the boy to Taronga!
I only see one photo with flowers, were there more or nah? We visited the Hervey Bay botanical gardens at the start of the year and I was disappointed at the lack of colour and variety. 😶 Apparently Bundaberg's are better. Will have to see!
The route that I took didn't have many flowers. There are other areas with more of those, but they were off the track that I needed to take.
Bundaburg? That is up north in Queensland right?
Yes. I'm from Penrith originally but live in Queensland now; Sydney's one of my favourite places to visit when I can! 😊 Brings back memories.
The key point being... to visit!
My partner will be going to Sydney, Australia too and I told him to explore and discover many good places there, and I might suggest this one to him.
Ah yes, this is a pleasant way to spend a relaxing afternoon!
I love botanical gardens. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, they are a pleasant way to spend a half hour or more!
