Premium 8: Lychee Cider
I'm a huge fan of ciders... and I've found my go-to brand in Australia now, with a selection of pear and apple ciders in a variety of styles ranging from the sweeter types through to the quite dry tasting ones.
Earlier this year, on a visit to a local Vietnamese restaurant, I had seen a really unusual choice for a Lychee cider! And I knew that I had to try it out... after all, how often are you going to see and taste something this unusual? Or perhaps it more common in other parts of the world, but it was definitely the first time that I had seen something like this!
And I remember that it went really pretty well with my dinner... but when my wife tried it, she wasn't that keen on it.
Since then, I've been meaning to pick up a pack of the cider... they don't have an online portal to order direct from the maker, and they are only stocked at certain places throughout Australia. Interestingly enough, one of the places is really near us... but I just keep forgetting to drop by and pick it up.
However, just before Christmas, we did need to stock up a bit on festive drinks... and this time, I did remember! It is a pretty pricey purchase, at about 30 AUD for a pack of four 330ml bottles. So, something that I won't be getting too often...
... but it did mean that I got to try it by itself, without any other food... and away from the distractions of dinner company and the restaurant noise. And tasted by itself, it was pretty damn sweet! Normally, the pear cider that I have is the sweetest of all the ciders that we have... we prefer the dry versions of the apple, but sometimes I do like the sweeter pear version. However, this was a good deal sweeter than even the pear!
... as you drank further, it mellowed out a bit... but it was a bit too much. An interesting oddity, but I don't think that I would be buying it again! I will stick to the pear and apple ciders that I already stock and love!

Yuhh leeches cider sounds intriguing! If they had delivery overseas I'd like to purchase several bottles to try it#
It is pretty decent... but a touch too sweet to have all the time!
I'd like to try this cider. I must say I am a fan of this too. Happy New Year my friend and have a prosperous 2024!
If you like sweet drinks, then this is the one for you!
Never heard of it in cider, not a fan of the fresh fruit, perhaps I never really looked.
Fruit is in season at the moment sold by the box normally, something I bought for my Mom who always enjoy them chilled from the fridge here in Durban during summer months.
Will stick with apple cider at the end of the day, happy 2024!
It was a new thing for me as well! Lychees in the fridge, I will have to try that! happy 2024!
Refreshing out of the fridge in heat of summer, enjoy!
