New Blooms and Neighbourhood Thugs
Some of our newer additions to the garden front have taken hold quite nicely! We planted about 15 partly established plants int eh front... a mix of screening plants and nice scented flowering plants. We had the help of my mother-in-law who suggested the types of plants that we should put down as a first planting. The screening plants are growing a little bit slower than I had hoped, but I should have planted them a half metre further away from the carport, as they don't quite get rained on when it does rain.... so, I should probably water them more often... should...
Anyway, the little flowering ones are coming up quite nicely now... and the first of them has started to flower. Last night, it was still closed up as a bud, but today it was in bloom and open... and we have lots of bees and butterflies coming to hang out in our garden!
...speaking of hanging out in our garden. We are getting a rotating cast of differenl birds as well. A bunch of colourful Rosella birds dropped by the other evening whilst we were having dinner, and they were just looking in at us eating whilst we were looking out at them loitering...
... and then, they suddenly started attacking our Christmas lights! The little thugs managed to chomp through several wires before I shooed them off... Sigh, no big loss... but a touch of unnecessary vandalism from the local wildlife! Anyway, my wife wants me to finish up painting the woodwork here and then hang out the permanent lights... then we can get started on putting up a shade-cloth here. I probably won't make the end of summer for that project as the main focus is still on mulching the garden before we focus on other things.
On a completely unrelated note, I'm now the proud owner of a mini chainsaw on a stick...

Ah well, it is still nice to have the birds around! I would rather they were here even if they do eat the occasional light!
