It has been quite cold and raining where we are in Australia... and that has meant that the gardening and outdoor stuff has taken a bit of a back seat for little bit. Plus, there is the end of the financial year stuff to take car off... administration and taxes and all of that annoying stuff.

But the garden steadily marches on whether we have time to pay attention or not! Thankfully, it isn't growing like crazy... so a little bit of a walk around to tidy up the larger pieces of tree debris is good enough for the moment.

... and even though it is the middle of the winter, there are little shoots of life starting up already! Such as this apple or pear tree (we still haven't figured out what it is...) in the front area, where it had sprung back to life last year, and this year is putting out some really nice little flower buds! Perhaps this will be the year that we finally figure out what sort of tree it is!

Meanwhile, the bushes at the side of the carport that we planted soon after moving in are now an unruly bunch... we will need to cut them back a bit, so that they bush upwards more instead of just out to the side. There are many thin branches growing to the sides that are getting too heavy and they start drooping downwards. But the leaves have turned this really nice shade of red/purple for the winter season!

Whilst I was up on the roof fixes up the gutter guards that the cockatoos had ripped out, I saw that this particular wattle had this gigantic branch that went out sideways and was blocking the growth and light of another smaller wattle. Probably need to deal with that at some point, but it will be a multi-stage cutting with the chainsaw on a stick... and I probably need to be careful not to wipe out our clothes line!

... and the tulips and other bulbs that we had put in have already started poking their heads up out of the dirt... much much earlier than I had expected... perhaps I hadn't dug the holes deep enough? Or is it just unusual weather that is making them do that early?

Meanwhile, the ongoing overhanging large project is the completion of the retaining wall... we are digging out the back trench for the last stage of the first half. And then after this, we can make a start on the second and final stage... which is the other main section. We will probably have it done by the end of the year if we are lucky!
