Growing Season

The recent weeks have been alternating sunny weather with storms... and that makes for quite a lot of growing... both useful and wanted ones, and the long weeds and grass that is much less wanted.

With the tomato plant, I decided that it was going to be much better this year with a proper circular support stand. I had wanted to get one last year, but my wife thought that it wasn't worth it and that we should just use bamboo stakes instead. We did that, but we had to keep retying them, and it didn't really support the actual tomatoes very well.

So, this year, we have the support stand... and the tomato plant is growing so nicely supported within the stand, and I can imagine that when the tomatoes start, it won't suddenly collapse the plant as the supports are horizontal as well as just a straight up and down thing. I probably should net the thing as well... the birds do like to drop by and have a bit of a snack.

The male kiwi is shooting up like crazy... I will really need to set up the trainer line soon... We've run out of the stake... and it is starting to try and wrap around the wood and metal. I was told that the kiwi plants will grow really quite strong, and to keep them away from the wood structure as it will eventually crush it.

The female ones are growing decently as well... but much slower for some reason.

Meanwhile, the herbs have grown back strongly as well after a heavy pruning. Last time we pruned everything back, it all just went to the green bin... however, this time... someone gave me the idea to make a green herb sauce and to freeze it. So that you have a nice easy to stir through sauce for pastas or simple meals. Especially in winter!

This mint has been dormant for quite some time... I actually thought that it was done for. It has shown new life... but I do need it to grow much faster so that I can add a bit of it to the green sauce!

Our lavender hasn't grown quite as fast as I thought that it would... but I have noticed that it is a favourite of the cicadas to sit on the flowers and to shed their skins on them! Each of the little lavender plants have between 3 to 8 dry skins on it!

I just learned from you that KIWI is actually a creeping plant. I thought it was a tree?

I like the way you grow plants, even though you have to use pots, the plants can grow well, different from my yard, the yard is still soil.

We will eventually get them to a larger wicker bed... but we have to prepare the ground and the beds first!

That's really cool, I didn't know that kiwi came off of vines. I learned something new! Thanks!
