Completing More Tasks!

Ahhhh... a productive little week of getting stuff done. As I've mentioned before, we have a pretty large suburban block with lots that needs to be done... courtesy of a previous owner who didn't really do that much for maintenance and let things get a touch overgrown. It does mean that there is a lot of work to be done... but it also means that we get to shape everything to our vision for the block.

So, we are planning for a mix of zones around the house... and some will be quicker to do than others. We have a relative coming around later this month to help us plan out some ideas and to offer some advice.

Anyway, it does feel good to have a few things out of the way... many of them are small, but at least there is a certain sense that we are managing to complete things. So, in the above photo, a river rock border at the back to keep the wood mulch back from the building. Eventually, we want a similar stone path along one side of the house (currently, just clay earth...)... but for that area, we will need to level it and cover with grinder dust and then lay down the river pebbles. But that will also take a much larger shipment of pebbles that I'm currently researching... and probably a stupid amount of wheelbarrow trips!

Some of the front window garden are also starting to sprout more flowers... these are little ones that I think are going to spread into ground cover (I can't remember... my wife is doing the greenery... I'm just digging...).

Zucchini and Tomato plants are growing very strongly in their sun-soaked spot on the patio.... we will eventually have a food area with wicker beds and fruit trees down the back, but that needs some serious work with the retaining wall first! Best to get that done before moving in the wicker beds!

The gums are shedding their skin and bark everywhere... which does make for a bit of a bit of a hilarious appearance to these trees! Thankfully, most of it ends up in a pile at the bottom of the trees, so just adding to the wood mulch rather than causing a huge mess elsewhere...

Little rock borders to help keeping the water in with the saplings... and also to keep the mulch from choking them as well! Three of the little designs as a first experiment, and I think we will extend this out to the ones further down the corner.

Meanwhile... the gutter guards are helping with the leaves.. but there was a huge build up of silt within the gutters that was due for a scraping out...

... much more than I had expected! So, that was a morning "well" spent... sitting on the roof listening to podcasts and scraping around the house... slow... there is quite a lot of gutter!

... ahhhh...little luxuries as well. Getting the hose onto a proper reel and setting up the spray head for it. My wife had purchased these... but they were left sitting around for a month or more... again, just getting it set up didn't take too long, but it tends to be task that gets put off. Still, once it is done... watering the garden gets easier!

Sigh... raking the leaves. If it wasn't so bloody hot, I would even consider putting it all in a pile and setting it on fire. Sadly, that would likely end up burning down the whole neighbourhood... and result in cranky neighbours! So, into a bag and then to the green tip. I'm really considering getting a frame to set the bags up in... getting the leaves into the bloody bag is tricky!

Anyway, the driveway is done... I have to the do the street gutters tomorrow. There is way too much there, and we are supposed to keep those clear!

Ah, we had an irrigation system here, but it had to be all taken up to replace the drainage... eventually we will replace it all again, but for the moment, it is hoses and watering cans which is a bit of a big thing for a large garden! Thankfully, it is mostly native trees and bushes so there isn't a huge need for constant watering!
