Celestia Airdrop (TIA): Staked and Hedged
The Celestia mainnet has finally launched, and with it comes the airdrop for the Ethereum and Cosmos ecosystem users that had lodged their claims in the previous month or so. Celestia seems to be doing some infrastructure stuff on Cosmos that closely resembles the Arbitrum and Optimism superchain/L3 ecosystems. A single data availability layer that will have other daughter chains settling and referring back to it.
I'm a bit curious as to whether or not it will take hold... the Ethereum versions have had a much longer lead time, and they are more established with the bigger players such as Coinbase with their BASE chain.
Plus, I'm not one who will turn my nose up at a large airdrop... even if I'm quite wary of actually actively chasing airdrops. To my mind, that is a great way of getting scammed by accidentally signing a malicious signature/transaction...
Anyway, along with he mainnet launch, all the major exchanges listed TIA overnight (in Australia, it was about 2 in the morning). Honestly, I couldn't be bothered waking up in the middle of the night for this... and it turns out my intuition was alright... by the time I sorted my airdrop and sent it onwards to Binance, it had only really lost about 20-25 percent of that initial crazy spike volatility. Sure, that is missing profit... but on the other hand, my cost basis was zero... and I like my sleep!
With the airdrop, I had to consolidate it all into a single Celestia account (via Keplr). I had a few wallets/addresses that were eligible... and in the end, the airdrop was about twice or three times as much as I was expecting due to non-claims. So, that made me happier with selling off some immediately.
As with all airdrops, I keep a chunk and sell a chunk... I'd rather get some immediate profit instead of holding down to zero, and there is always still a moonbag in case I hedged wrongly. In this particular case, I am pretty keen to see where Celestia goes, and it was a big hyped one for 2022-23... so, I kept 80 percent and sent 20 percent to Binance.
The kept portion was immediately staked via Keplr... honestly, this is such a nice interface. Ethereum and Polkadot could definitely take some pointers here!
Meanwhile, the other 20 percent was market sold on Binance. Remember what I had said about setting your bull market goals a few posts back? Well, one of them was to get a colour e-reader for myself (for comics...), and a large e-reader for my wife (for sheet music)... I have the stablecoins waiting to go... and I'm a lot happier now that I get something out of the magic internet money! But, still with a decent foot in... as I do still believe in the vision of a proper internet infrastructure that isn't a digital veneer covering up the archaic plumbing from the steam-power era.
Hope you managed to get your TIA airdrop... spend, hold, and stake it wisely!
