Hydrogen uses:

Recently, hydrogen has been used as a fuel for massive rocket engines. According to the space research bulletins, liquid hydrogen combined with liquid fluorine provides a tremendous thrust to the rocket that has not been matched by any other fuel. This application resulted from the significant advancements made in chemical engineering recently, as it is well known how dangerous it is to use large amounts of liquid hydrogen because even a small spark can result in a massive explosion. In addition, energy can be produced to run automobile and vehicle engines using hydrogen, and it can also be used to produce electric current in fuel cells.

  • Hydrogen is also considered as a clean and environmentally safe fuel, as it does not release polluting gases to the environment during its combustion. At the same time, this process produces high energy. These characteristics qualify hydrogen to be the fuel of the future.

Regarding the terrestrial industrial sectors, the majority of the hydrogen produced industrially is used in the ammonia synthesis processes, and a significant portion of that is used in the synthesis of methanol (CH3OH) as shown by the reaction:

CO+ 2H2==== CH3OH

Additionally, it is utilized in some return processes as well as the hydrogenation of vegetable oils and petroleum products.
