I invite you to a wine tasting at a winery in Mendoza, Argentina

Hello my dear friends of the Pinmapple community!!! I hope you are having a beautiful day! This time I will take you to visit a typical Mendoza winery located very close to the city, in the department of Maipu.

The particularity of it, is that it is in the middle of an urbanization, but this is because there they are mainly dedicated to the commercial part of the winery and do not have in that area the vineyards planted. However, in this place they do make wine, but with grapes brought from vineyards in another sector.

I only recently found out about Argentia, in fact, it was because a friend suggested we go there. Most of the wineries I have visited are located towards the mountains, in areas that must be accessed by car or by bus as part of a tour, because of course, most of them work together with all their vineyards.

Hola mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Pinmapple!! Espero que estén teniendo un hermoso día!! En esta ocasión los llevaré a visitar una típica bodega mendocina que se encuentra muy cerca de la ciudad, en el departamento de Maipú.

La particularidad de la misma, es que está en el medio de una urbanización, pero esto es porque allí se dedican principalmente a la parte comercial de la bodega y no tienen en esa superficie los viñedos plantados. Sin embargo, en este lugar sí elaboran vino, pero con uva que traen de los viñedos que se encuentran en otro sector.

Hace muy poco tiempo que me enteré de la existencia de Argentia, de hecho, fue porque una amiga nos sugirió ir. La mayoría de las bodegas que he visitado quedan hacia la montaña, en áreas a las que hay que acceder en auto o en un bus en el marco de un tour, porque claro, la mayoría funciona junto a todos sus viñedos.

The fact is that Argentia, according to what the girl who gave us the tour of the winery told us, was boosted with the installation of the metrotram, which you will see in the photos.

This means of transport consists of a one-car train that crosses in a linear way some departments of Greater Mendoza such as Las Heras, Capital, Godoy Cruz, Luján de Cuyo and Maipú. The only one that is left out of the route is Guaymallén and this is because the railway infrastructure does not have that detour to the east, but it was already installed (but in disuse for several decades, in a north-south direction).

We decided to organize an outing then with my friends to this place, and opted to take the metrotram, since we expected to drink some wine and it was not safe to drive after that.

El hecho es que Argentia, según nos comentaba la chica que nos hizo el recorrido por la bodega, se vio impulsada con la instalación del metrotranvía, que verán en fotos.

Este medio de transporte consiste en un tren de un vagón que atraviesa de manera lineal algunos departamentos del Gran Mendoza como Las Heras, Capital, Godoy Cruz, Luján de Cuyo y Maipú. El único que queda fuera del recorrido es Guaymallén y se debe a que la infraestructura férrea no cuenta con ese desvío hacia el este, sino que ya estaba instalada (pero en desuso desde hacía varias décadas, en dirección norte- sur).

Decidimos organizar una salida pues entonces con mis amigas a este lugar, y optamos tomar el metrotranvía, ya que esperábamos beber algo de vino y no era seguro manejar después de ello.

The entrance and lunch at the place has an approximate price of USD 18, but includes: reception, starter, main course, dessert, 1 bottle of water, a type of wine that accompanies each dish (this is called pairing and the amount of wine is like to taste) and a guided tour of the winery. The truth is that the cost is excellent for everything they offer.

We were four friends, we met in the Specialization in Public Health that I finished in 2019 and ended up putting together a nice group with them. Actually 3 of us are from there and one of us brought another friend.

We arrived at the winery around 12:30 noon, they took our orders, and while they were preparing everything, they took us on the tour, where they explained part of what I told you at the beginning of the post.

What I really liked about this wine cellar is that it is full of art, paintings by artists from Mendoza that are decorating the rooms and that give the space a particular touch of warmth, which contrasts with the characteristic temperature of these infrastructures (temperatures tend to be low).

Both the food and the wines were exquisite. The dishes were abundant, well away from the gourmet trend where they serve two bites. They were Argentine style meals, which occupied a good part of the plate where they were served.

La entrada y almuerzo en el lugar tiene un precio aproximado de USD 18, pero incluye: recepción, entrada, plato principal, postre, 1 botella de agua, un tipo de vino que acompaña a cada plato (esto se llama maridaje y la cantidad de vino es como para degustar) y una visita guiada a la bodega. La verdad es que está excelente el costo para todo lo que ofrecen.

Fuimos cuatro amigas, nos conocimos en la Especialización en Salud Pública que finalicé en 2019 y se terminó armando un lindo grupo con ellas. En verdad 3 somos de ahí y una llevó a otra amiga.

Llegamos a la bodega alrededor de las 12:30 del mediodía, tomaron nuestros pedidos, y mientras preparaban todo, nos llevaron a hacer el recorrido, donde nos explicaron parte de lo que les comenté al inicio del post.

Lo que me gustó muchísimo de esta cava, es que está repleta de arte, de pinturas de artistas mendocinos que están decorando las salas y que le dan al espacio un particular toque de calidez, lo que contrasta con la temperatura característica de estas infraestructuras (tienen a ser temperaturas bajas).

Tanto la comida como los vinos estaban exquisitos. Los platos abundantes, bien alejados de la tendencia gourmet en donde sirven dos bocados. Eran comidas bien al estilo argentino, que ocupara una buena parte del plato donde estaban servidas.

I chose to have two empanadas de costilla asada as a starter, trucha (a type of fresh water fish found in Tunuyán) as a main course, and panacotta for dessert. The wines I was given were, for the first course red Malbec, for the second course rosé Malbec and for the dessert sparkling bñanco.

The wine I liked the most was a rosé Malbec, a variety that has recently become fashionable in Mendoza and that I think has a lot of potential to occupy European markets, where what is consumed a lot (judging by the time I spent there and the people I met) is rosé wine and orange wine, which are softer on the palate when it comes to accompanying a meal.

Yo opté por almorzar de entrada dos empanadas de costilla asada, de principal trucha (es un tipo de pez de agua dulce que se encuentra en Tunuyán), y de postre panacotta. Los vinos que me dieron fueron, para el primer plato Malbec tinto, para el segundo Malbec rosado y para el postre espumante bñanco.

El vino que más me gustó fue un Malbec rosado, una variedad que se ha puesto de moda recientemente en Mendoza y que creo que tiene mucho potencial para ocupar mercados europeos, en donde lo se consume mucho (a juzgar por el tiempo que pasé allá y las personas que conocí) es el vino rosado y el vino naranja, que son más suaves al paladar cuando se trata de acompañar alguna comida.

The winery, besides having a beautiful room where you can have lunch inside, has a beautiful garden where there are also tables for those who decide to eat outside. That day it was quite hot, so we opted to stay inside, which was air-conditioned.

After lunch, around 4 pm, we went to sit at a little table in the shade of a tree and took the opportunity to take pictures and contemplate a small fountain they have with fish in the garden.

La bodega, además de tener una hermosa sala donde almorzar hacia el interior, cuenta con un precioso jardín en donde también hay mesas, para quienes decidan comer afuera. Ese día hacía bastante calor, por lo que optamos quedarnos adentro, que estaba climatizado.

Después de comer, ya cerca de las 4 pm, fuimos a sentarnos en una mesita que estaba a la sombra de un árbol y aprovechamos para tomar fotos y contemplar una pequeña fuente que tienen con peces en el jardín.

It was a beautiful experience, a different kind of Sunday and it really did the mind good to disconnect, because although it was an "unnatural" outing, which is what I like the most and what you are used to, there was a very good combination of relaxed atmosphere, social life, and a spacious place with a lot of nature in it.

Fue una experiencia hermosa, un domingo diferente y realmente hizo muy bien a la mente ese tipo de desconexión, ya que aunque fue una salida “poco natural”, que es lo que más me gusta y a lo que más los tengo acostumbrados a ustedes, hubo una muy buena combinación de ambiente relajado, vida social, y un lugar espacioso y con bastante naturaleza en él.
