Welcome to Avoriaz 1800, the village built in the middle of the mountain - French Alps

Hello dear friends of Pinmapple, today I bring you to a getaway I made the other day that aimed to reach this village. I will be back, and I hope the images will be better, but for the moment this is what I have and I think it brings value to the Hive platform and of course to Pinmapple.

I've been here for two months, in Les Gets, and although I've been out exploring quite a bit, every time I go to a new point in this village system in the Alps, I realize how little I know.

This time I tried to get to Avoriaz 1800. I say tried because I know that my fellow skiers have been able to get there by skiing, and I didn't know if there was a gondola that would take me there, and above all, I didn't know if my mountain pass worked for this purpose.

Hola queridos amigos de Pinmapple, hoy los traigo a una escapada que hice el otro día que tenía por objetivo llegar a este pueblo. Volveré, y espero que las imágenes sean mejores, pero por el momento es lo que tengo y creo que aporta valor a la plataforma de Hive y claro que a Pinmapple.

Llevo aquí dos meses, en Les Gets, y aunque he salido a explorar bastante, cada vez que voy hacia un nuevo punto de este sistema de pueblos en Los Alpes, me doy cuenta de lo poco que conozco.

En esta oportunidad intenté llegar a Avoriaz 1800. Digo intenté porque sé que mis compañeros que esquían, han podido llegar esquiando, y yo no sabía si existía algún a telecabina que me llevara hasta allá, y sobre todo, no sabía si mi pase de montaña funcionaba para este fin.

Once there, I went straight to the price sign... getting to Avoriaz was worth €35, so if I had to pay, well I ruled it out, as that's quite a lot of money and I also had 30% battery on my cell phone, so I wasn't going to be able to make a trip of more than a couple of hours capturing photos.

I walked over to the machine that reads the passes. I have my pass for some ski slopes because I am working as a seasonal here. Well, the barrier opened and presto, I was on my way to Avoriaz.

Una vez allí, fui directo al cartel de precios… llegar a Avoriaz tenía un valor de €35, así que si tenía que pagar, pues lo descartaba, ya que eso es bastante dinero y además tenía 30% de batería en el móvil, por lo que no iba a poder hacer un viaje de más de un par de horas capturando fotos.

Me acerqué a la máquina que lee los pases. Tengo mi pase para algunas pistas de esquí por estar trabajando como temporera aquí. Pues bien, la barrera se abrió y listo, ya estaba camino a Avoriaz.

Finding a way to get to this town

A few days ago I discovered that my pass brings me closer to Morzine, because if I cross the mountain (it takes 40 minutes), I get to a cable car and go down to Morzine, but well, Avoriaz is quite far away.

I set off anyway.

I crossed the mountain, arrived at Pleney and from there I went straight to the Tourist Office to ask how I could get to Prodains, which is where there is a big gondola lift to go up to Avoriaz 1800.

Sure enough, line A took me free of charge to Prodains, so I took the bus.

You will see pictures of the place specifically because I was running out of battery on my phone. I thought I had the portable charger charged but alas no, so I reserved the battery for Avoriaz.

Hace unos días descubrí que mi pase me acerca a Morzine, pues si atravieso la montaña (demoro 40 minutos), llego a una telecabina y bajo a Morzine, pero bueno, Avoriaz queda bastante lejos.

Igualmente emprendí camino.

Atravesé la montaña, llegué a Pleney y desde allí fui directo a la Oficina de Turismo para preguntar cómo podía llegar a Prodains, que es donde se encuentra una gran telecabina para ascender a Avoriaz 1800.

Efectivamente la línea A me llevaba de manera gratuita a Prodains, así que tomé el bus.

Verán fotos de el lugar específicamente porque me estaba quedando sin sin batería en el teléfono. Pensé que tenía cargado el cargador portátil pero lamentablemente no, así que reservé la batería para Avoriaz.

Avoriaz 1800

I went from just over 1100 meters above sea level to 1800, I felt it very much, so much so that almost 10 minutes after being there I went back to the gondola to descend.

However, since I had arrived and the trip had been long, I decided to stay for a while.

Avoriaz 1800 is a village built at that altitude. We are not talking about one or two restaurants with two houses next door, we are talking about a village that has a supermarket, parking, hotels, and so on. But what stands out in Avoriaz, especially for skiers, are the 600 kilometers of slopes.

I walked a bit through the restaurant area and ventured down a street that took me past hotels and fine bars. However, it was all uphill and I was extremely agitated.

Pasé de poco más de 1100 metros sobre el nivel del mar a 1800, lo sentí muchísimo, tanto que casi que a los 10 minutos de estar ahí me volvía a la telecabina para descender.

Igualmente ya que había llegado y que el viaje había sido largo, decidí quedarme un momento.

Avoriaz 1800 es un pueblo construído a esa altura. No estamos hablando de uno o dos restaurantes con dos casas al lado, hablamos de un pueblo que tiene un supermercado, parking, hoteles, y demás. Pero lo que destaca en Avoriaz, en especial para los esquiadores, son los 600 kilómetros de pistas que hay.

Caminé un poco por la zona de los restaurantes y me aventuré a tomar una calle que me llevó por hoteles y finos bares. Sin embargo, todo era subida y yo estaba extremadamente agitada.

Let's just say I knew the part of the village facing the cable car and the ski slopes, but guess what... I hope to come back and show you another side of Avoriaz 1800, and hopefully I can add a hike.

My buddies love Avoriaz 1800 when it's really cloudy, but I think this village must be beautiful when the sun is out.

Digamos que conocí la parte del pueblo que da hacia la telecabina y hacia las pistas de esquí, pero adivinen qué… espero volver y poderles mostrar otra cara de Avoriaz 1800, y ojalá pueda sumar una caminata.

Mis compañeros aman Avoriaz 1800 cuando está muy nublado, pero yo creo que este pueblo debe ser precioso cuando sale el sol.

I highlight of Avoriaz the amount of snow accumulated on the roofs, which show layers according to the time of snowfall. Also the architecture is very beautiful, as it gives the feeling that the roofs are melting on the house.

Something very particular that I saw was the amount of people that were there, from beginners and obvious ski professionals, to hikers like me. I even saw two or three people moving with their luggage to different accommodations.

I think it's a great idea, because if the body is sensitive to the change of altitude and pressure, being there for a few days and acclimatize properly, seems to be a great option, as this guarantees that you can do any physical activity in a more effective and pleasant way.

Destaco de Avoriaz la cantidad de nieve acumulada en los techos, que evidencian capas de acuerdo al momento de nevada. También la arquitectura es muy bonita, ya que da la sensación de que los techos están derritiéndose sobre la vivienda.

Algo muy particular que vi, es la cantidad de gente que había allí, entre principiantes y evidentes profesionales del ski, hasta caminantes como yo. Incluso vi a dos o tres personas desplazándose con su equipaje hacia diferentes alojamientos.

Me parece una gran idea esa, porque si el cuerpo es sensible al cambio de altura y presión, estar allí unos días y aclimatarse apropiadamente, parece ser una gran opción, ya que esto garantiza que se podrá hacer cualquier actividad física de manera más efectiva y placentera.

Finally, Avoriaz 1800 is really designed for lovers of skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing, as it is in the middle of huge slopes and restaurants are on the side waiting for hungry and thirsty skiers.

I invite you to make certain observations in the images, such as the marked inclination of the buildings in contrast with the mountain and with the road along which I am going. Even if I want to straighten the images in the editing, it is impossible, because there is nothing "straight", but everything is built on constant slopes of the terrain.

You can also see the huge truck that flattens the snow in the images, and the luggage of numerous tourists arriving on site.

We will see if I go there again, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this experience with you.

Por último, Avoriaz 1800 está realmente pensado para amantes del ski, del snowboard y del snowshoeing, pues está en medio de pistas inmensas y los restaurantes están a un costado a la espera de los hambrientos y sedientos esquiadores.

Los invito a realizar ciertas observaciones en las imágenes, como la marcada inclinación de los edificios en contraste con la montaña y con el camino por el cual yo voy. Aunque quiera enderezar las imágenes en la edición, es imposible, pues no hay nada “derecho”, sino que todo está construido en constantes pendientes del terreno.

También pueden ver el enorme camión que aplana la nieve en las imágenes, y el equipaje de numerosos turistas que llegan al lugar.
