The Used Fair (La Feria del Usado), a particular experience in Mendoza, Argentina

Hello dear hivers of WEEKEND EXPERIENCES, today I bring you something really unique to enjoy but also to know the different realities that exist in the world, and also within the same city.

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to go to THE USED FAIR, a space in the department of Guaymallén, Mendoza, where they sell different objects. Although its name says "used", not everything you can get there is literally used. This place opens only that day of the week.

What happened with this fair is that over the years, it grew, until it became really well known throughout the Greater Mendoza and in different groups of society.

Initially, only used things were sold, but with the passing of time so many people came to this place to buy and sell, that nowadays the fair even has food stands, live music, and a small place to have a drink.

The fair has really cheap prices, and you can get from clothes to electronic items, car parts, furniture, ornaments, fruits and vegetables, it literally has everything.

By offering convenient prices and selling used products, many people with access to less resources come to the fair. This is something that caught my attention for the good, because beyond those who went to buy, there were many small entrepreneurs selling new or used products and even many handmade.

Despite having grown up very close to the fair and having had some friends who went to sell there on Sundays, the truth is that for one reason or another, I never went, until this weekend.

I really enjoyed seeing people excited, seeing what to buy or what to sell. I even saw people eating something and enjoying the songs that a gentleman was sharing in a very homely and jovial way.

The surroundings of the Feria del Usado

It was a bit complicated to park because it was full of cars, and although there was a parking lot next to it, we opted to leave the car in a side street.

Before arriving at the fair, which has its own security, there are other stores that sell some products, but especially greengrocers.

Something that particularly caught my attention was the sale of cow's milk, apparently and according to the sign, it was fresh milk, which I have never seen sold anywhere else in the city.

In front of the fair, I saw one of those beetle-shaped cars that were very famous in Argentina and that nowadays are hardly seen driving on the street. This one was impeccable, white, parked there with pride.

Safety at the Used Fair

As you can see in the pictures, this is a very crowded place with narrow passages to walk through. This place took me back to what was experienced less than two years ago, as there were people coughing and sneezing and I understood that a space like this promotes the spread of any virus or bacteria.

Apart from the sanitary aspects, you have to be careful, because people are beginning to "pile up", so it is highly recommended to carry your belongings well guarded. Many people carried their backpacks forward, to make sure they always had it in sight.

The tour, although crowded, was calm, and it could be observed that people were focused on getting the best prices and enjoying the afternoon.

I spent a particular after noon there and I visited a new place in my own city, so that’s something that I always like a lot. Although I didn’t buy anything because I didn’t find something that I liked so much, I could take a look at some prices and now I. Know where to find some specific things that are difficult to see in the center of the city.
