Take a walk with me in the emblematic French city of Marseille, La Belle de Mai, as it is called by visitors

This time we will travel to Marseille, a city in the south of France that for its beauty is able to fall in love at first sight.

It took me a while to make this compilation of images, because at the time I took them, I had two phones, one I was using for Argentina and the other for Europe. Unfortunately I lost the one for Argentina and that is where I had the most pictures of Marseille (it was a Samsung and because of its memory, I had no need to save the images in the cloud), but luckily something remained in my other phone, so there are memories in images of that city.

Hola mis queridos amigos! Espero que estén pasando un hermoso día y que estén disfrutando de los diferentes viajes y experiencias que los numerosos hivers vienen a compartir a Pinmapple.

En esta ocasión viajaremos a Marsella, una ciudad del sur de Francia que por su belleza es capaz de enamorar a simple vista.

Me costó un poco hacer esta recopilación de imágenes, ya que en el momento en que las tomé, yo tenía dos teéfonos, uno que estaba usando para Argentina y el otro para Europa. Lamentablemente extravié el de Argentina y es allí donde tenía la mayor cantidad de fotos de Marsella (ese era un Samsung y por su memoria, no tenía necesidad de guardad las imágenes en la nube), pero por suerte algo quedó en mi otro teléfono, por lo que existen recuerdos en imágenes de aquella ciudad.

Where is Marseille?

As I was saying, it is in the south of France, in what is known as Côte d'Azur, and what many people call the French Caribbean. Its beach corresponds to the Mediterranean Sea and although the water is crystal clear and very calm, it is difficult to swim there due to the amount of rocks on the shore. However, it is extremely enjoyable to go to the beach on a hot day.

Marseille is located east of Montpellier and west of Nice, two other cities that give life to this Côte d'Azur mentioned above, which is characterized by that crystalline blue color of the sea, as if it were the Caribbean instead of the Mediterranean.

Its position is excellent to provide pleasant summers, and even if the temperature rises, Marseille will always offer pleasant weather in that season.

Como les comentaba, está al sur de Francia, en lo que se conoce como Costa Azul, y a lo que mucha gente llama el Caribe Francés. Su playa corresponde al Mar Mediterráneo y aunque el agua es cristalina y muy calma, es difícil bañarse allí debido a la cantidad de rocas que hay en la orilla. Igualmente es extremadamente disfrutable ir a la playa en un día de calor.

Particularities of the city

Marseille captivated me from the first moment. Its ups and downs on all sides invite you to enjoy the urban landscapes that appear as you go up or down the streets, because the heights are so marked that you can see depressions or hills surprisingly when walking through the city.

In an area of the Old Port, Marseille offers designs that catch any tourist, like this mirrored roof that reflects the people walking along that walkway, or the famous tongue of the Rollings Stones well positioned to receive the sunset and draw attention.

In the Old Port area where I was, there were restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, music and a lot of joy around the port. I fell in love with a place called Waffle Factory where they sold delicacies that I had never tasted in my city.

Particularidades de la ciudad

Marsella me cautivó desde el primer momento. Sus altibajos por todos lados invitan a disfrutar de paisajes urbanos que van apareciendo a medida que se asciende o desciende por las calles, pues las alturas son tan marcadas que se dejan ver depresiones o colinas sorpresivamente al caminar por la ciudad.

En una zona del Viejo Puerto, Marsella ofrece diseños que atrapan a cualquier turista, como este techo espejado que refleja a las personas que caminan por esa pasarela, o la famosa lengua de los Rollings Stones bien posicionada para recibir la puesta del sol y llamar la atención.

En la zona del Viejo Puerto donde yo me encontraba, había restaurantes, bares, heladerías, música y mucha alegría alrededor del puerto. Yo me enamoré de un lugar llamado Waffle Factory en donde vendían delicias que jamás había probado en mi ciudad.

The magnetism of its sea

This city has a unique characteristic and that is that its sea is...magnetic. You can really stand there mesmerized watching the crystal blue water for hours. In fact, it is very common to see people sitting, just contemplating.

It's as if the water transports you to another dimension. The blue is so clear and yet so deep, it disconnects you from wherever you are.

Being able to look out to sea from higher elevations in the city is a blessing for those who love seascapes.

El magnetismo de su mar

Esta ciudad cuenta con una característica única y es que su mar es…magnético. Realmente puedes quedarte allí hipnotizada observando el azul cristalino del agua por horas. De hecho, es muy común ver a la gente sentada, simplemente contemplando.

Es como si el agua te trasladara a otra dimensión. El azúl es tan claro y a su vez tan profundo, que te desconecta de donde sea que estés.

El poder mirar hacia el mar desde zonas más elevadas de la ciudad, se convierte en una bendición para aquellos amantes de los paisajes marinos.

Security in Marseille

He mentioned this topic because there are too many rumors about it, and Marseille was one of the most dangerous cities in the south of France. Over the years it had generated a bad reputation that made it doubtful that it was really convenient to visit this city, especially as a woman traveling alone, and the levels of insecurity were quite high.

However, there was a kind of remodeling of the city where different spaces were recovered and it was given a turn towards a safe city. Traveling, I met numerous travelers, both men and women, who went alone and were safe in this city.

Likewise, there were narrow streets where you obviously had to be cautious, the kind that you know, born in intuition, because you could feel the insecurity, something that did not happen to me in Nice.

Seguridad en Marsella

Mencionó este tema porque hay demasiados rumores al respecto, y es que Marsella era una de las ciudades más peligrosas del sur francés. Con los años había generado una pésima reputación que ponían en duda el que fuera realmente conveniente visitar esta ciudad, en especial siendo una mujer viajera sola, y es que los niveles de inseguridad eran bastante altos.

Sin embargo, hubo una especie de remodelación de la ciudad en donde se recuperaron diferentes espacios y se le dio un giro hacia la ciudad segura. Viajando, conocí numerosos viajeros, tanto hombres como mujeres, que iban solos y que se encontraban seguros en esta ciudad.

Igualmente, había calles estrechas en donde evidentemente, había que tener precaución, de esa que ya sabes, nace en la intuición, pues se sentía la inseguridad, algo que no me pasó en Niza.
