Let's go for a 20-hour road trip! Mendoza - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hello my Pinmapple friends here in the Hive family, today I'm taking you on a very long ride, along the Argentinean roads, especially Route 7, which is the one that connects the east and west of the country.

This route literally crosses the entire Argentine territory as if it were a line of latitude, and allows us to connect port with mountain. The port in Buenos Aires and Mendoza is one of the passes to the neighboring country, Chile.

Doing this route by bus can be very annoying for those who do not love adventure, but for travelers like me, it is nothing but an exquisite opportunity to contemplate the scenery.

The outward journey is different from the return trip, as you leave at noon and what you see is mainly the region of whose, up to Cordoba, a province in the center of the country. The rest of the way is already at night and you can see absolutely nothing.

On the way back, which you will see in another post, the landscape you will see is the Argentinean pampa, I will talk about it later.

Vamos a por 20 horas de viaje en ruta! Tramo Mendoza - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Hola mis amigos de Pinmapple aquí en la familia de Hive, hoy me los llevo a un paseo bien largo, por las rutas Argentinas, en especial por la Ruta 7, que es la que conecta el este y el oeste del país.

Literalmente esta ruta atraviesa todo el territorio argentino como si se tratara de una línea de latitud, y nos permite conectar puerto con montaña. El puerto en Buenos Aires y en Mendoza se encuentra uno de los pasos hacia el país vecino, Chile.

Hacer esta ruta en colectivo puede ser muy molesto para quienes no aman la aventura, pero para viajeros como yo, no es sino una oportunidad exquisita para contemplar el paisaje.

El viaje de ida es diferente al de vuelta, pues se sale al mediodía y lo que se ve es principalmente la región de cuyo, hasta Córdoba, provincia del centro del país. El resto del camino ya es de noche y no se ve absolutamente nada.

De vuelta, que lo verán en otro post, el paisaje que se observa es la pampa argentina, hablaré de ella luego.

Why in a collective?

When I found out about LaBitConf and Hive's presence in this event, it was about 3 months before the event, and I just had a lot of expenses, also related to travel. So although I waited and checked daily the prices of plane tickets, here in Arge tina they were going up, so I opted for ground transportation, which cost me half the price of the plane tickets.

I could also have chosen the train, but we were already talking about 30 hours of travel and my adventurous spirit has a limit, hehe. Besides, I was traveling to Buenos Aires for two days, so it didn't make sense to travel for 30 hours.

¿Por qué en colectivo?

Cuando me enteré de LaBitConf y de la presencia de Hive en este evento, faltaban unos 3 meses para el evento, y yo justo había tenido bastantes gastos, también relacionados con viajes. Así que aunque esperé y revisé a diario los precios de los pasajes de avión, aquí en Arge tina no hacían más que subir, por lo que opté por el medio de transporte por tierra, que me costaba la mitad del precio que salía en avión.

También podría haber elegido el tren, pero ya hablábamos de 30 horas de viaje y mi espíritu de aventurera tiene un límite, jeje. Además viajaba a Buenos Aires por dos días, así que no tenía sentido viajar durante 30 horas.

The Argentine landscape and roads

Argentina's roads are well known for captivating travelers. Wherever you are, there is something surprising. In the south, in the north, in the east and in the west, the landscape mutates in a unique way, and this trip is a clear example of that, as we go from the mountains, at a level of 800 meters above sea level where Mendoza is, to the plains of the Pampas. In between, the mountain ranges of San Luis and Córdoba, act as a transition between one and the other extreme of the Argentine geomorphology. A delight.

It had been many years since I had made this trip, the last time being 12 years ago, while I was studying to become a Professional Geographer. I do not have many memories of that trip, because among my classmates we were talking and I did not pay much attention to the landscape.

However, as a child, this trip had acted as an escape from various situations I was going through. We used to go with my family to Mar del Plata (it is in Buenos Aires) in the summer and I remember the hours looking out the window while listening to Madonna, La Oreja de Van Gogh and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

This was the first time I made this trip alone, and it was long, yes. Using the toilet on the colectivo was uncomfortable, yes. But the scenery you are seeing is worth the time and discomfort, because there is no other way to enjoy that show.

El paisaje y las rutas argentinas

Las rutas argentinas son bien famosas por cautivar a los viajantes. Sea donde sea que estés, hay algo sorprendente. En el sur, en el norte, en el este y en el oeste, el paisaje va mutando de una manera única, y este viaje es una muestra clara de ello, ya que pasamos de la montaña, de un nivel de 800 msnm donde está Mendoza, a la llanura de la Pampa. En el medio las sierras de San Luis y las de Córdoba, actúan como transición entre uno y otro extremo de la geomorfología argentina. Una delicia.

Hacía muchos años que no realizaba este viaje, siendo la última vez hace 12 años, mientras estudiaba la carrera de Geógrafo Profesional. No tengo muchos recuerdos de aquel viaje, pues entre mis compañeros íbamos conversando y no presté mucha atención al paisaje.

Sin embargo, de niña, este viaje había actuado a modo de escape de diversas situaciones que iba atravesando. Solíamos ir con mi familia a Mar del Plata (se encuentra en Buenos Aires) en el verano y recuerdo las horas mirando por la ventana mientras escuchaba Madonna, La Oreja de Van Gogh y los Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Esta fue la primera vez que hice este viaje sola, y fue largo, si. Utilizar el sanitario del colectivo fue incómodo, si. Pero los paisajes que están viendo valen el tiempo y las incomodidades, pues no hay otra manera de disfrutar de ese espectáculo.

There are several trucks on this route; as it is a national route, which connects Buenos Aires with Chile, raw materials and products are traded on a permanent basis. So it is common to see several trucks.

The sunset occurs in the west on this stretch, while the bus is heading east, so it is as if the sun's rays are chasing you, as they light up the landscape in shades of orange and pink, already between sierras.

The trip took 20 hours, although it was scheduled to take 17. In the middle of the trip the drivers had to return to one of the stations, I don't know why, but I noticed how at night the bus was turning on the dark road with extreme caution. It was a delay of about 40 minutes.

By the way, this trip implies that the bus stops in San Luis, Córdoba, Río Cuarto and a couple of other terminals, that's why it takes so long. Different people are getting on and off as the trip progresses.

I traveled in semi-cama service, and it was extremely comfortable, much more so than the cama, which I will talk about in its corresponding publication.

El viaje demoró 20 horas, aunque tenía previsto que demorara 17. En el medio los choferes tuvieron que regresar a una de las estaciones no se muy bien por qué, pero noté como ya de noche, el bus giraba en la ruta oscura con extrema precaución. Fue una demora de unos 40 minutos esa.

Por cierto, este viaje implica que el colectivo frene en San Luis, Córdoba, Río Cuarto y un par de terminales más, por eso demora tanto. Diferentes personas van subiendo y bajando a medida que el viaje avanza.

Viajé en servicio semi-cama, y fue extremadamente cómodo , mucho más que el cama, del cual hablaré en su correspondiente publicación.
