Follow me to Corniglia, the heart of Cinque Terre in Italy, a walk that will take you to the sea

Hello to my dear friends of Hive! It's a pleasure to be here again, in what is a new post for Pinmapple. This beautiful community has become my travel diary, where I share with you places and experiences, and at the same time, I keep them to have them when I want to remember them better.

This time we will travel to Corniglia, in the Liguria Region of beautiful Italy.

Corniglia is one of the 5 lands that make up the renowned Cinque Terre area, a protected natural area with a breathtaking landscape, where the blue water is a constant in every step the visitor takes.

With the Mediterranean on one side and the green hills on the other, the area offers the best disconnection from the city.

Hola a mis queridos amigos de Hive!! Es un placer estar por aquí nuevamente, en lo que es un nuevo post para Pinmapple. Esta hermosa comunidad se ha convertido en mi diario de viaje, en donde comparto con ustedes lugares y experiencias, y al mismo tiempo, las resguardo para tenerlas cuando desee recordarlas mejor.

En esta ocasión viajaremos a Corniglia, en la Región de Liguria de la bella Italia.

Corniglia es una de las 5 tierras que conforman la reconocida zona Cinque Terre, área natural protegida con un paisaje impresionante, en donde el agua azul es una constante en cada paso que da el visitante.

Con el Mediterráneo a un costado y los verdes cerros al otro, el sector ofrece la mejor desconexión de la ciudad.

Cinque Terre is located between Genoa and La Spezia, both medium-sized cities, Genoa being noticeably larger than the second mentioned, and this one, La Spezia, ends up being a sort of closure of this path, since although it is not one of the 5 protected lands, it is geographically very close to the last one, which is Riomaggiore.

Corniglia, on the other hand, is the "middle" town of Cinque Terre, the first and second being Monterosso al Mare and Vernazza respectively, and the fourth and fifth, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

Visitors indicate that Corniglia is the most beautiful, but having visited 4 of them, I would say that each one holds its magic.

Cinque Terre se encuentra entre Génova y La Spezia, ambas ciudades medianas, siendo Génova notablemente más grande que la segunda mencionada, y esta, La Spezia, termina siendo una especie de cierre de esta trayectoria, ya que aunque no es una de las 5 tierras protegidas, se encuentra geográficamente muy cerca de la última, que es Riomaggiore.

Corniglia por su parte, es la ciudad “del medio” de Cinque Terre, siendo la primera y segunda Monterosso al Mare y Vernazza respectivamente, y la cuarta y quinta, Manarola y Riomaggiore.

Los visitantes indican que Corniglia es la más bella, pero habiendo visitado 4 de ellas, diría que cada una guarda su magia.

The trip to Cinque Terre can be done individually traveling on different trains and paying for each ticket, or you can buy a ticket that includes all the trips that the tour will demand.

In my case, I traveled with Nour and Juliette, two friends from the volunteering I was in Genoa, and as we had to return early to the hostel, we did not know if we would be able to visit everything that same day (in fact we did not make it, we only got as far as Manarola).

El viaje a Cinque Terre puede hacerse de manera individual viajando en diferentes trenes y pagando cada pasaje, o se puede comprar un ticket que incluye todos los viajes que demandará el paseo.

En mi caso, viajé con Nour y Juliette, dos amigos del voluntariado en el que estaba en Génova, y como teníamos que volver temprano al hostel, no sabíamos si alcanzaríamos a visitar todo ese mismo día (de hecho no lo logramos, solo llegamos hasta Manarola).

We took different trains, but because we were not tied to any ticket, we took the luxury of walking at one point of the ride, on the only path that was enabled that day, and so we walked from Vernazza to Corniglia.

The path was arduous, and none of us was dressed for the occasion, hehe. It was a trekking of medium difficulty that invited to drink a lot of water and to take some breaks due to the level of demand involved.

When we "couldn't take it anymore", we wondered why we didn't decide to take the train instead of walking, but we were half way and none of the three of us wanted to go back. So we decided to continue.

To our good fortune and as it usually happens in the most challenging moments of any aspect of life, after that moment of doubts and complaints, the trail began to draw downward, eliminating at least the effort of the climb we had gone through up to that point.

Tomamos distintos trenes, pero debido a que no estábamos atados a ningún ticket, nos dimos el lujo de caminar en un momento del paseo, por el único sendero que estaba habilitado aquel día, y de ese modo fuimos a pie desde Vernazza hasta Corniglia.

El camino fue arduo, y ninguno estaba vestido para la ocasión, jeje. Era un trekking de dificultad media que invitaba a beber mucha agua y a tomarse algunos descansos debido al nivel de exigencia que implicaba.

Cuando ya “no podíamos más”, nos preguntamos por qué no decidimos tomar el tren en lugar de hacer ese recorrido caminando, pero estábamos a mitad de camino y ninguno de los tres quería volver. Así que decidimos seguir.

Para nuestra suerte y como suele suceder en los momentos más desafiantes de cualquier aspecto de la vida, tras aquel momento de dudas y quejas, el sendero empezó a dibujarse hacia abajo, eliminando al menos el esfuerzo de la subida que habíamos atravesado hasta ese entonces.

So, after what was about an hour of intense hiking, we arrived in Corniglia, which awaited us with some narrow streets that had some bars open, and a kind of "corridor" or alley that led to the most beautiful panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea on the Ligurian coast.

And there was Corniglia, the acclaimed by tourists, with light yellow tones on its facade facing the sea that contrasted beautifully with the blue, turquoise, green of the sea, on a day when the sun had become the protagonist of the scene.

Así, tras lo que fue alrededor de una hora de intenso senderismo, llegamos a Corniglia, que nos esperaba con unas estrechas callecitas que tenían algunos bares abiertos, y una especie de “pasillo” o callejón que conducía a la vista panorámica Del Mar Mediterráneo más hermosa de la costa de Liguria.

Y allí se lucía Corniglia, la aclamada por los turistas, con tonos amarillo claro en su fachada de cara al mar que contrastaba de manera hermosa con el azul, turquesa, verde Del Mar, en un día en el que el sol se había convertido en el protagonista de la escena.

As a reward and because we were very hungry and thirsty, we decided to sit down in a little place to eat something. We ordered a hamburger, and enjoyed a chat in the beautiful Corniglia.

I remember Juliette noticed the name "Cinque" and said: there are a lot of French words in this place, Juliette, it's from France. And Nour explained to her that "Cinque" is an Italian word that happens to be spelled the same as in French and they have the same meaning, but the pronunciation is different. I don't know why I have that memory so vivid, hehe.

The food on the other hand, exquisite, like good Italian food 😊.

A modo de premio y porque teníamos muchísima hambre y sed, decidimos sentarnos en un lugarcito a comer algo. Pedimos una hamburguesa, y disfrutamos de una charla en la bella Corniglia.

Recuerdo que Juliette observó el nombre “Cinque” y dijo: en este lugar hay muchas palabras francesas, Juliette, es de Francia. Y Nour le explicó que “Cinque” es una palabra italiana que casualmente se escribe igual que en francés y tienen el mismo significado, pero la pronunciación es diferente. No sé por qué motivo tengo tan vivo ese recuerdo, jeje.

La comida por su parte, exquisita, como buena comida italiana 😊

That was one of the calmest moments of my trip, where I contemplated the immensity, in silence but in the company of two people I had known for days and who had become a temporary family.

Corniglia had managed to make me fall in love like everyone else, with his peace and harmony, but at the same time, with an impetuous and seductive personality, which will hardly fail to conquer his travelers.

Aquel fue uno de los momentos de mayor calma de mi viaje, en donde contemplé la inmensidad, en silencio pero en compañía de dos personas que hacía días que conocía y que se habían convertido en una familia temporal.

Corniglia había logrado enamorarme como a todos los demás, con su paz y armonía, pero al mismo tiempo, con una personalidad impetuosa y seductora, que difícilmente fracasará en la conquista de sus viajeros.
