El Camino, a film with intention that offers us a closure without much flavor

My dear friends of Movies & TV Shows, and of course, of the entire Hive platform. Watching for the second time the whole season of Breaking Bad (later I will bring review of it, since I did it of Better Call Saul, but how not to do it of its mother series), I discovered that there is a movie called "The Road", which derives from the aforementioned production. Some of you already knew about it, sure, I, who finished watching Breaking Bad in 2015, never found out that in 2019 Netflix brought us a continuation of Jesse's life.

As some may know, Jesse is the former student of Walter White, the chemistry teacher who after being diagnosed with lung cancer and with the initial goal of generating money for his family, starts producing methamphetamine. The man is so good at what he does, that he ends up becoming obsessed with this business, dragging too many people in the middle.

The first person he takes to his end, is Jesse, a young drug addict who was making methamphetamine to sell, but as an amateur, without too much protocol or knowledge.

Jesse makes it all the way to the end of the series, but the way the boy ends is saddening, and at the end it's not really clear what happens to him.

El Camino is a movie to watch, exclusively if you have seen Breaking Bad, otherwise you will hardly understand anything, unless you read the story before or someone tells it to you.

Mis queridos amigos de Movies & TV Shows, y claro, de toda la plataforma de Hive. Viendo por segunda vez toda la temporada de Breaking Bad (luego traeré reseña de ella, ya que la hice de Better Call Saul, pero cómo no hacerla de su serie madre), decubrí que hay una película llamada “El Camino”, que deriva de la producción mencionada. Algunos ya lo sabían, seguro, yo, que terminé de ver Breaking Bad en 2015, nunca me enteré que en 2019 Netflix nos traía una continuación de la vida de Jesse.

Como algunos sabrán, Jesse es el ex-alumno de Walter White, el profesor de química que tras ser diagnosticado de cáncer de pulmón y con el objetivo inicial de generar dinero para su familia, comienza a producir metanfetamina. El hombre es tan bueno en lo que hace, que termina por obsesionarse con este negocio, arrastrando en el medio a demasiada gente.

La primera persona que toma para su fin, es Jesse, un joven drogadicto que hacía metanfetamina para vender, pero como un aficionado, sin demasiado protocolo ni conocimiento.

Jesse llega hasta el final de la serie, pero la manera en que termina el chico es tristísima, y al final no queda muy claro qué es lo que le ocurre.

El Camino es una película para ver, exclusivamente si has visto Breaking Bad, sino difícilmente entenderás algo, salvo que leas la historia antes o que alguien te la cuente.

My opinion

I must tell you that I had a hard time watching it. It is extremely slow. One expects it to have a certain continuity with the Breaking Bad series not only in the sense of the story, but also in the tone, the intrigue, the shots, but it doesn't. In fact, the only thing that has coherence are the facts and the thread, which leads us to show us what became of Jesse's life and what will happen to him.

The movie shows us all the actors much older, even some of them aged or with noticeable changes in their physique. This is something that normally wouldn't bother me, but since "The Road" comes to narrate the immediate continuation of Breaking Bad, it ends up losing the "realism" of the series. Maybe I had this impression because I literally watched it after finishing the last episode.

On the other hand, as I told you, it is very slow. It has a duration of two hours in which different facts are exposed to tell us very punctually what became of the life of this character.

Something I liked, is that it makes a constant exchange between events of the past and the present without warning, which somehow for a moment "loses you". I think that's what catches you at the moment of watching it.

Debo decirles que me costó verla. Es sumamente lenta. Uno espera que tenga cierta continuación con la serie Breaking Bad no solamente en el sentido de la historia, sino en el tono, la intriga, las tomas, pero no. De hecho, lo único que tiene coherencia son los hechos y el hilo conductor, que nos conduce a mostrarnos qué fue de la vida de Jesse y qué pasará con él.

La película nos muestra a todos los actores mucho más grandes, hasta algunos de ellos envejecidos o con cambios notorios en su físico. Esto es algo que normalmente a mi no me molestaría, pero dado que “El Camino” viene a narrar la continuación inmediata de Breaking Bad, termina por perder el “realismo” de la serie. Quizás he tenido esta impresión porque la vi literalmente tras terminar el último episodio.

Por otro lado, como decía, es muy lenta. Tiene una duración de dos horas en las cuales se exponen diferentes hechos para contarnos muy puntualmente qué fue de la vida de este personaje.

Algo que me gustó, es que hace un constante intercambio entre hechos del pasado y de ese presente sin previo aviso, que de alguna manera por un momento “te pierde”. Creo que es eso lo que más atrapa al momento de verla.

Teachings

Jesse, within the badness of what is already the whole drug trafficking, and beyond his habits, is the character who permanently empathizes with people, is the one who has no intention to harm and is the one who by having a personality we could say something more dependent, ends up "stuck" in a group that even surpasses the cartel that existed in New Mexico, as Walter White ends with everyone (until then they end up with him for his own ambition and negligence, of course).

Jesse is somehow a victim within this group of victimizers, where he has to accept that crimes are committed with which he does not agree, and he has to do it out of loyalty to his group and also to save his own skin, then, if there is someone you want to be saved in Breaking Bad, it is Jesse, who in this series ends up worse than if he had been killed.

Then of course, the audience demands justice for him, and "El Camino" tells us: - Relax, Jesse had a bad time, but not everything looks black on his horizon.

The moral of this, at least from my point of view, is that sooner or later there is a justice that manifests itself. Sometimes it may take a long time to arrive and many adversities may appear in the middle, along with inexplicable events, but based on the Law of Karma, not everything ends up being very bad for Jesse, who, even though he saved his life and perhaps starts a new path, will have to deal with what he lived through, whether he chose it or not.

Enseñanzas

En cuanto a las enseñanzas, bueno, esto quiero hablarlo mucho más en una próxima reseña de Breaking Bad, que vendría a ser la producción con el grueso de contenido no solo narrativo sino también con todo el juego psicológico que han incluido en ella, pero “El Camino” de alguna manera viene a darnos algo de calma y cierta sensación de justicia.

Pues Jesse, dentro de lo malo de lo que ya es todo el narcotráfico, y más allá de sus hábitos, es el personaje que permanentemente empatiza con las personas, es el que no tiene ninguna intención de dañar y es quien por tener una personalidad podríamos decir algo más dependiente, termina “pegado” en una agrupación que hasta supera al cartel que existía en Nuevo México, ya que Walter White termina con todos (hasta que luego terminan con él por su propia ambición y negligencia, claro).

Jesse es de alguna manera una víctima dentro de este grupo de victimarios, en donde él tiene que aceptar que se cometan crímenes con los que no está de acuerdo, y tiene que hacerlo por fidelidad a su grupo y también por salvar su propio pellejo, entonces, si hay alguien que uno quiere que se salve en Breaking Bad, es Jesse, que en dicha serie termina peor que si lo hubiesen matado.

Entonces claro, la audiencia pide justicia para él, y “El Camino” nos dice: - tranquilos, Jesse la pasó muy mal pero no todo se ve negro en su horizonte.

La moraleja de esto, al menos desde mi punto de vista, es que tarde o temprano hay una justicia que se manifiesta. A veces puede tardar en llegar y puede que en el medio muchas adversidades aparezcan, junto con hechos inexplicables, pero bien basado en la Ley del Karma, no todo termina siendo muy malo para Jesse, que igualmente, aunque salvó su vida y quizás inicia un nuevo sendero, tendrá que lidiar con lo que vivió, sea que lo haya elegido él o no.
