Adventures in Argentina, discover the 7 Colors Mountain in the Andes Mountain Range in Mendoza

Hello my dear friends of Pinmapple, it is a pleasure to be here once again, sharing one more adventure, this time again in Latin America, Argentina. This country has thousands of beautiful landscapes to discover.

This time we are walking through the Andes Mountains, and in particular we will go into Uspallata, a town that is in a kind of valley, not only offers beautiful scenery, but also has managed to grow quite a lot in terms of urbanization in recent years.

Historically Uspallata has been a tourist attraction and a place of passage par excellence, which is located on the road that connects Argentina with Chile in the so-called Paso del Libertador. The trip from Mendoza to Chile takes 6 hours, but with customs, this time is extended, so travelers and traders stop in Uspallata to eat something or rest.

For this reason and for its own nature, Uspallata constitutes this focus of attraction, of which in this opportunity we will see the Cerro 7 Colores, because although Uspallata seems to be small, because it offers natural spaces to know, it is necessary to make several visits to be able to cover everything.

Aventuras en Argentina, descubre el Cerro 7 Colores de la Cordillera de Los Andes en Mendoza

Hola mis queridos amigos de Pinmapple, es un placer estar una vez más por aquí, compartiendo una aventura más, esta vez nuevamente en América Latina, Argentina. Y es que este país tiene miles de paisajes bellísimos por descubrir.

En esta ocasión estamos paseando por la Cordillera de los Andes, y en especial nos adentraremos en Uspallata, una localidad que por encontrarse en una especie de valle, no solamente ofrece paisajes preciosos, sino que también ha logrado crecer bastante en cuanto a urbanización en los últimos años.

Históricamente Uspallata ha sido un atractivo turístico y un lugar de paso por excelencia, que se encuentra en el camino que conecta Argentina con Chile en el llamado Paso del Libertador. El viaje de Mendoza a Chile demora 6 horas, pero con la aduana, este tiempo se extiende, por lo que viajeros y comerciantes frenan en Uspallata para comer algo o descansar.

Por esto y por su propia naturaleza, Uspallata constituye este foco de atracción, del cual en esta oportunidad veremos el Cerro 7 Colores, ya que aunque Uspallata pareciera ser pequeña, por ofrecer espacios naturales para conocer, hay que hacer varias visitas para poder recorrer todo.

Getting into the mountains

A few days ago we went with a friend to this hill, which is well into the mountain. The road that leads there has been fairly well paved and has been made very accessible for vehicular traffic, but water and wind erosion are evident.

It took us about 25 minutes to get from the paved road to the hill, and on the way we saw three boys doing the same trail but on bicycles.

When we arrived at the hill, we noticed that there were already people there, although not so many. There were 3 more vans with families and friends who were contemplating and photographing the beautiful scenery.

Although the context of the hill is beautiful and lets you see the wonders of a mountainous and arid area, it is not until you see the striking and seemingly inexplicable colors of the famous Cerro 7 Colores that you are struck by its originality.

Adentrándonos en la montaña

Hace unos días fuimos con una amiga a este cerro, que se encuentra bien adentro en la montaña. El camino que conduce allí ha sido bastante bien allanado y lo han dejado muy accesible para el tránsito vehicular, pero la erosión hídrica y eólica se hacen evidentes.

Demoramos alrededor de 25 minutos en llegar desde la ruta asfaltada hasta el cerro, y en el camino vimos a tres chicos haciendo el mismo sendero pero en bicicleta.

Cuando llegamos al cerro, observamos que ya había gente allí, aunque no tanta. Eran 3 camionetas más con familias y amigos que estaban contemplando y fotografiando el precioso paisaje.

Aunque el contexto del cerro es hermoso y deja ver las maravillas de un área montañosa y árida, no es sino hasta ver los colores llamativos y en apariencia inexplicables del famoso Cerro 7 Colores que impacta con su originalidad.

The particular "Cerro 7 Colores" (7 Colors Hill)

According to the sign placed by the same public administration of Las Heras, district to which Uspallata belongs, the colors of this geoform are due to the different minerals that constitute it and that vary their color according to the direction in which the sun's rays reach it.

When I saw it, the truth is that I was impressed, because I did not think that this would exist in Mendoza. Although the province is beautiful and amazing, I had already been to a Cerro 7 Colores in Jujuy, a province in northern Argentina, so I thought that was the Cerro 7 Colores of the country.

Well no, it turns out that Mendoza has another and very beautiful one, since it is not only the colors that captivate, but the rock formations and the shadows generated by the different tectonic movements as well as by erosion, are strange and invite you to get lost either contemplating them or walking around or on them.

At the same time, I must say that it is evident how water and wind erosion have affected the landscape, which although undeniably beautiful, shows the rubble generated by the same disintegration of the rocks.

It is possible to walk through it, but it is essential to have appropriate footwear that is embedded in the ground, otherwise it is very easy to slip. For example, that happened to me, who had running shoes.

El particular “Cerro 7 Colores”

Según indica el cartel colocado por la misma administración pública de Las Heras, distrito al que pertenece Uspallata, los colores de esta geoforma se deben a los diferentes minerales que la constituyen y que varían su color de acuerdo a la dirección en la que llegan los rayos del sol.

Cuando lo vi, la verdad es que quedé impresionada, pues no pensé que esto existiera en Mendoza. Aunque la provincia es bella y sorprendente, yo ya había ido a un Cerro 7 Colores en Jujuy, una provincia del norte argentino, por lo que pensé que ese era el Cerro 7 Colores del país.

Pues no, resulta que Mendoza tiene otro y muy bello, ya que no solamente son los colores los que cautivan, sino que las formaciones rocosas y las sombras generadas por los diferentes movimientos tectónicos como también por la erosión, son extrañas e invitan a perderse sea contemplándolas o caminando alrededor o sobre ellas.

Al mismo tiempo, debo decir que es evidente cómo las erosiones hídrica y eólica han afectado al paisaje, que aunque indiscutiblemente bello, muestra el ripio generado por la misma desintegración de las rocas.

Transitarlo es posible, pero es fundamental para ello contar con un calzado adecuado que se vaya encastrando en el suelo, caso contrario es muy sencillo resbalarse. Por ejemplo, eso me pasó a mí , que tenía zapatillas deportivas de correr.

Climbing the hill

Although we climbed the hill, we could not reach the top precisely because of the issue of footwear, because although the climb was not so complicated, the descent would have been risky because most of the sections lack firm rocks to place hands or feet, due to this same issue of erosion. However, we were able to contemplate a beautiful landscape from the place we reached, since we could see another side of the hill.

Its colors are fascinating, and at times it seemed as if we were looking at a park with grass.

Subiendo el cerro

Aunque subimos el cerro, no pudimos llegar a la cima justamente por el tema del calzado, ya que aunque la subida no era tan complicada, la bajada hubiese sido arriesgada debido a que la mayoría de los tramos carecen de rocas firmes para poder colocar manos o pies, por este mismo tema de la erosión. Sin embargo, pudimos contemplar un paisaje bellísimo desde el lugar al que alcanzamos a llegar, ya que se pudo ver otra de las caras del cerro.

Sus colores son fascinantes, y por momentos parecía que estábamos viendo un parque con césped.

Route 7

I take this opportunity to share with you some pictures of the landscape on the way to Uspallata and Cerro 7 Colores, since the images are very nice, as one goes deeper into the Andes Mountains, and it is possible to see how the height of the hills increases considerably.

This is the famous Route 7, which connects Buenos Aires with Mendoza and from this same route is where you get to Chile, for this reason, it is usually very busy and you can see many trucks that are responsible for marketing.

La Ruta 7

Aprovecho esta oportunidad para compartir con ustedes algunas fotos del paisaje en el camino de ida a Uspallata y al Cerro 7 Colores, ya que son muy bonitas las imágenes, ya que uno se va adentrando en la Cordillera de Los Andes, y es posible observar cómo la altura de los cerros va incrementando de manera considerable.

Esta es la famosa Ruta 7, que conecta Buenos Aires con Mendoza y desde esta misma ruta es por donde se llega a Chile, por este motivo, está por lo general muy transitada y pueden verse muchos camiones que son los que se encargan de la comercialización.

The Tiger

On this route, you can see on the side of one of the hills, an image that the locals have called "El Tigre", because the yellow color of the rocks has ended up shaping a figure very similar to that of a tiger lying down.

En esta ruta, se puede ver en un lateral de uno de los cerros, una imagen a la que los locales han llamado “El Tigre”, pues el color amarillo de las rocas ha terminado por dar forma a una figura muy similar a la de un tigre acostado.
