Cacique Maragüey Monument; Tribute to the indigenous people of the eastern region (Eng - Esp)
Greetings friends lovers of Architecture and Design, it is a pleasure to greet you and share my visit to Cacique Maragüey Avenue, in the coastal strip of the city of Cumaná; Previously this avenue was called Cristóbal Colón, on the occasion of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Cumaná, the name of the avenue was changed to pay homage to Cacique Maragüey, a brave warrior of the Caribe family who fought to defend his people from the invasion and conquest of the Spanish, in fact the city was burned on several occasions due to the strong resistance of the indigenous people who inhabited the region, because they did not want their way of life and the space they inhabited to be occupied by the European invader.
According to information from a renowned professor and historian of the city, the conquest and colonization of this part of the country was not easy for the Europeans, the indigenous people who occupied this area stood out for their bravery and fighting spirit.
Very close to the passenger terminal begins the avenue Cacique Maragüey, in the island that separates the channels of the avenue was built a monument with the name of the cacique, this consists of a small walk with concrete walkways and chopped stones, decorated with blue fish made of concrete, It also has a dividing line of triangular bricks, palm trees placed in circular green pots, the floor is made of cement with rectangles painted in various shades of blue, also a cement table decorated on top with ceramic cutouts, the chairs are cylindrical in shape.
The stone pavement is decorated with white flowers, whose petals are filled with small stones, the center of the flower is a yellow circle, the heart-shaped pot is my favorite is red and the plants growing in it have a similar color, the fish scales look real and seem to have small drops of water, the painter did a great job on the fish, from the edge of the roadway emerges a figure of blue color similar to the whales with spots on the head and a long horn.
To move along the stone path there are several blue and green squares, the monument is a blue concrete rectangle, with a gray plaque at the top where you can read the phrase: "I ❤️ Cumaná", which has It has been the distinctive logo of the city in tourist places and main avenues, the plaque serves as support for the two rectangular columns where the name of the avenue is written in white letters.
In the afternoon while I was running errands with my son, I visited this monument, we rested for several minutes in the chairs and enjoyed the fresh breeze; According to what was said by a resident of the sector, the blue color that abounds in the monument is linked to the presence of the sea in the coastal strip of the city and the fish represent the importance of fishing activity in the eastern region and particularly in the state of Sucre where one of the most important fishing areas in the country is located.
Blessings!
¡Bendiciones!

Hi sobatkelana, the fish are eye catching and beautiful, a beautiful work of art adorning the ride.
Blessed day!
This place is lovely, the art and urban design that can be seen in each of your photos is very nice. You can see that it lacks a little care to the green areas there, also the heat and drought have influenced.
Greetings @gaboamc2393, the design is beautiful, my favorites are the fish, the blue color and the scales combine very well.
It is an arid area with abundant breezes.
Happy Thursday!
