WEEKEND-ENGAGEMENT TOPICS: WEEK 229

After many years alone, or with fleeting or unstable relationships, I mean several decades dating people with whom I did not achieve anything satisfactory; At 58 years old, I am finally in a stable, satisfactory relationship, living in a country far from mine, Spain, with a man a few years older than me, with whom I have various interests in common, with whom I feel comfortable.

It has been an unexpected gift of life, which I no longer expected, which requires me to understand the logic and way of being of the opposite sex and I am learning to value those differences between men and women that can be interesting. For more than fifty years I have lived with four women, my mother and three sisters, and a difficult father, and in the last eight years, since my father died, only with women. That is why I find it attractive to reflect on the following topic proposed by @galenkp

What are three things you love about the opposite gender and why? Be specific.

The physical strength

Without a doubt, the body of men, and that of my partner, of course, has a greater capacity for physical strength. I was researching on the internet, and this is due to testosterone, the male hormone that men have in much greater quantities than women. This can be very useful for carrying out some household tasks, but it is also a symbol of virility and makes me feel protected especially when I leave the house. I like to feel his muscles when he hugs me. He goes to pilates twice a week and likes to walk. And it also fills me with good energy when we make love. A single woman, I know from experience, does not have that complement of wonderful energy that being loved by a man gives you. I have enjoyed it a lot and family and friends have told me that I look very good, that I am more attractive, since I have been with Daniel, my partner. However, paradoxically, women generally have a greater capacity to withstand pain and physical discomfort.

Managing emotions

From the moment we are born, society educates men and women in a different way. In general, girls and women are allowed to more freely express emotions that express pain, sadness, fragility or fear. While men are socially repressed from expressing these emotions. “Men don't cry” they tell men. While the expression of anger and violence is allowed for men, it is frowned upon for women to express them.

In addition to social conditioning, there is another factor that powerfully influences the way women handle emotions: hormones, which affect the chemistry of our body and brain. Something I value and like about the opposite gender is that, in general, they don't get so carried away by emotions. I can sit down and talk with Daniel about something that upset him or that upset me or about which we disagree. When I had a disagreement with one of my sisters it was very difficult to talk and solve the problem, among women the issue of emotions is a problem. Eventually, Daniel also expresses emotions; he is not a robot, but he usually does so in a calmer manner.

Different perspective on reality

Since I was a child I have had a curious spirit. I like to investigate the reality that surrounds me, have different perspectives on the world. And for me, a good conversation between women, although I enjoy it a lot, is not the same as a good conversation with someone of the opposite sex. That is something that I really enjoy since I live with Daniel, it helps me see situations from another point of view, it gives me ideas to solve problems that do not occur to me, although he is also a poet like me, he has a more logical way of thinking. , and sees details of the reality around me that sometimes I don't see. Men tend to have a more practical mindset. I like that.

Well, once again @galenkp has offered us interesting topics to reflect on and write about. I hope you enjoyed this article about some differences between men and women that complement us and that I enjoy. Have a good week.

Because I am not a speaker of the English language, I have translated this article with Google Traductor.
