RE: Splinterlands - Too Pricey to Play, for Me!

i mean...the prices were driven by demand. when the masses arrived there wasnt enough to go round! So they printed lots of chaos legion, and now its relatively cheap to buy some cards and play....but it looks like it could well get cheaper! Which might be a good thing, because if they ever come to market the game, new players will want to be able to get involved. Bots have been mostly ousted from the game, although i think the team plans to implement their own bots to ensure that there is always a battle to be fought....but they wont be milking rewards, just improving game experience. Land isnt for everyone of course....it is set to be quite complex and will appeal to resource management geeks who effectively have to treat it like business. Personally im quite excited about it despite the reality that I probably wont be very good at it!
In my opinion, splinterlands was the victim of its own success. It was ahead of the curve and caught a big wave before it was ready to surf. The decisions made were naïve and overly ambitious, expectations were set far too high and resources were squandered left, right and centre. However, the team continue to pour love and hard work in to the project and the approach is a lot more focused and mature than before. I think as Hivians we would do well to remain positive about the game because for a while it was the closest thing we had to a killer app and honestly I think with all our support it can do it again.
I can agree that they built something amazing and got a buzz going. I played it a lot for a while, but part of the reason for stopping was that it was eating time. I never got into automating my playing as I couldn't see the point. I pay a service to manage my rentals instead, but the income from that is not much. Maybe it will improve if the game really takes off.
I think matters might have been helped if more players had got into other aspects of Hive, but it was barely mentioned on the game site. Hive has potential as an alternative to some things on reddit and Discord as a social platform based around interests. We need more people doing the social stuff.
I'm concentrating more on music stuff these days. Got various things going on and some will be on Hive, like the Vibes contest.

yeh its been great to see vibes taking off!
i wonder if the social side of hive would be better if you didnt have to confirm everything on the blockchain? That way people could use it predominantly 'transaction free' and then commit stuff to the blockchain as and when they become accustomed to it, or when it feels absolutely necessary. i love the idea of bringing back profile pages...you know like myspace, with pictures and music and animated nonsense and collectibles and fun stuff. More fun basically. thats what we need round here. And chat rooms that arent on the blockchain. Theyre just on the side of your screen or something. Wheres my dev team? I have DEMANDS!
There are some attempts at 'light' accounts that are linked to Twtr or something, but I've not looked into that. Maybe someone could build that sort of profile page onto the blockchain, if there is demand. The platform won't stop you doing it anyway.
