My Journey Through the Graphite World - How I drew a slug.

One day I decided to test my visual memory and draw a slug that I had once photographed.

I was interested in finding out for myself whether it would be enough for me to look at the photo once on my computer screen and reproduce the image on paper as accurately as possible using a graphite pencil.

I did just that opened the photo looked at it carefully, closed the photo on the screen and started drawing but I will say that in the process of working I had to look at the photo three times one time was not enough for me to get this result.

Perhaps this was due to the fact that I had never drawn slugs before and was not interested in their physique which only seems very simple but in fact there are many small details and smooth transitions that are not easy to remember.

So, here you can see the photo and my drawing on which I spent about six hours of my time but it was interesting.

Having started working I immediately felt that I was going in the wrong direction but for now I was acting intuitively.

Something told me that the slug's body should be more voluminous.

It's amazing how quickly I forgot what I was looking at I'm talking about a photograph.

I looked at the photograph a second time when I needed to understand the curves of the slug's back.

And when I looked at the photograph a second time I was able to understand how to depict the asphalt on which the slug was crawling in the photograph.

At some point I thought that I had managed to depict the slug quite well.

But you know I was tormented by doubts and they like a splinter in my finger pointed to the structure of the internal part of the cephalopod's body and therefore I looked at the photograph a third time and corrected this mistake which you can see in the first photograph.

Since I did not constantly look at the source of the image I did not achieve absolute similarity but for me it is much more valuable to test my memory than to draw an exact copy of some image which is quite real for me but for me it is not interesting.
