Skardu lights
This is my entry for #monomad challenge by @monochromes
Skardu is located in Gilgit−Baltistan region, northern Pakistan.
Elevation is nearly 2,500 metres, at at the confluence of the Indus and Shigar Rivers.
Landscape is desert, and Skardu has been built in an oasis.
The Indo river is very huge, and it has its own space, so floods is not a problem.
It is slighty different from 17 years ago, first time I have been here.
Sadpara lake provides water and electricity, despite the drought: this year level of water in the lake was very low and sometimes is not sufficient to serve electricity of the city (now many people has bought many more domestic appliances), so there were sometimes blackouts.
The name "Skardu" seemed to derived from the Balti "a low land between two high places". I like also another derivation, Skardu from the conqueror name Alessandro Magno, in 4th century bc.
Here we went at Kharphocho fort, the name means The king of Forts.
We were lucky, before sunset a wonderful light appeared in the sky, and with the mujahidin voice and prayer the atmosphere was very magic!
Sony Alpha 7iii and Nikon D800 camera.
August 2022.
Congratulations. Today's #monomad third place is yours.
Thank You very much for participating and for being part of the Black And White Community!
thank you!
Your entry captures the beauty of Skardu’s desert oasis and the magical atmosphere at Kharphocho Fort during sunset. The reflection on your visit 17 years ago adds a personal touch.
Thank you very much!
