Self-portrait with chiaroscuro technique
In times of so much virtuality and of making so many digital works, one feels the need to return to the physical. This is something I think often and I analyze it deeply from many aspects and of course, art is a fundamental part of these meditations. Being so connected to the web causes us to disconnect from ourselves and our surroundings, since our virtual self is becoming more and more important and takes more and more of our time. Globalization brings us closer to others but also distances us from those we have next to us or many times we distance ourselves because seeing the real other means to collide, to be hurt, to be questioned; in virtuality we can disappear with a click, block and mute others who cannot face us - and we do not even know if they really exist or are who they say they are. The virtual world, our digital self can cease to exist if we have no internet connection but the real world is always there, showing us what we have created, what we have done with our life.
More and more often I feel in crisis with the digital, with the virtual, with the social networks and with the automation of life, with the rush and with this delirium of producing and producing, of performing every day a little more and of self-exploiting ourselves in order to get to some place where, then yes, we can relax a little and enjoy life but that place is getting farther and farther away.
This drawing came out of one of those crises, in which I disconnected from the virtual world and took a drawing course with this wonderful technique.
