Petersburg is a very old city. It was officially founded in 1703 by Emperor Peter 1. But there are many confirmations that the Stone City (as its name translates) is much more ancient.

This map already has the name Petersburg, but it was compiled 3 years before the official foundation

And here it's even more interesting.

Curiously, the date of publication of the map (1690) and authorship have been changed here.

But I want to show you a slightly different topic. If you are interested in digging into the history, you can follow the link under the first map.

Not so long ago I wandered around the oldest district of the city - the Petrogradskaya side. There is a special feature here, which is ... courtyards, city courtyards of this venerable district. I won't tell you anything about them, because I don't know if they were like this 500 years ago or if everything has changed...

In my humble opinion, these captures do not convey all the stunning weared-out beauty of SPb courtyards. Maybe you would need to use more wide-angle optics, even a fish-eye to display it properly? Anyway! Have a !BEER for your efforts. 🍻

Cheers and !BEER
