Marriage:Are You Strong Or Weak?

The chatter that once filled the air is dead,
It is like a graveyard that is nonexistent,
The vibrant world we seem to know isn't there,
Like a rainy day with the rainbow not clear.

Marriage is not for the weak-hearted, so I have heard,
Does it mean the likes of my need to cower for a shield?
While the strongest of us venture in with a strong head,
To battle whatever may come next.

Isn't there a manual for this? Someone once asked,
And I told them the same thing I heard,
Be strong-hearted, forgiving, understanding, and positive.

But sadly, those things didn't work as another asked,
What do I need to do for a peaceful long-life-filled marriage?
And I said, be patient, caring, loving and create that peaceful atmosphere.

And that didn't work so another question came in,
I have been married for 35 years and I know him,
But everything he does now seems like I never knew him.

And I answered,
Know his mood and communicate with him,
Don't conclude or raise your voice.
Pamper him until he is lost in ecstasy and while you are done with it,
Ask your questions.

But that didn't work as another asked me,
He isn't perfect but his flaws were something I could withstand,
But now, he has become worse,
What should I do?

And then I answered,
Cook him a nice delicacy and welcome him well from work,
Listen attentively whenever he speaks and don't interrupt,
Tell him how you feel in a good way.

But that also didn't work so another said to me,
I don't think I am fit for marriage,
It is filled with pain and suffering,
One minute you are happy and the next minute is in regret.

And I answered the person,
Life is not balanced,
Some days, you'd be extremely happy,
And in another, you are wailing endlessly.
I don't have the manual for marriage but I beseech, marry well.

And then one person came in and said,
I married well and I am happy.
My husband is my best friend and our children our greatest joy,
We have lived together for 4 decades and there is no regret.

And then I smiled and asked how did you do it?
And the person replied,
You just don't do it, you feel it and put your all into it.

And then I asked the person again,
Are you weak or strong?
And then the person giggled endlessly,
And she said I am both.

And then, I am pushed to ask the married people around,
How did you do it?
Are you filing for a divorce?
Getting married?
Already married?
Or never getting married?

Marriage is not for the weak... Those going into it or are already in it must be strong then...

"Are they not"

Marriage is not meant for everyone. Choose the life you want and go with it. It is not a do-or-die affair.

Don't let your tears run endlessly in pain because someone you love has hurt you physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Give love a chance. Either to yourself or another. You deserve more than that.

Still yours truly,
Balikis.

Thanks for reading.

Peace be unto those who crave it and more to those who chase it away.

Marriage is like a game, you win some you lose some. I've lost twice but won with three beautiful children so not all was a complete loss. I must say when the marriage started it was bliss filled but as the years passed we grew apart and wanted different things. It was me in the first marriage and then her in the second. It is what it is if I find the right person I wouldn't mind trying it again.

Your poem hits a lot of points right on the head. I wish there was a manual for marriage, it'd make things simpler for sure. I love when I meet a couple married for 50 years as my parents are and I've seen them go through some very rough patches. Yet love is love some people have it some don't.

Grat writing.

That's true. A game where you don't know what the other player may hold against you. And you either lose or win.

I am glad you learned your lessons and despite it all, you still want to give love a chance which I hope you find one soon.

We all wish there was a manual. It will make life better. And I truly love seeing people who have been married for a long and are still together. It is something magical.

I appreciate your presence here and the additional insight added in. Some !luv to you as you begin or already began the day.
