The Vegetarian Festival has begun for 9 days and 9 nights from September 26 - October 4, 2022. The Vegetarian Festival is the period during which one abstains from all meat and concentrates on eating vegetables. Phuket is a province with a large number of Thai-Chinese residents. There are about 40 shrines scattered in Phuket, making the Vegetarian Festival a great festival for Phuket.

But after the coronavirus outbreak, in many shrines In Phuket, the vegetarian festival has been canceled for 2 years. It's only the first edition since, so it is extremely expected by the inhabitants. Today I'm going to take everyone to know about the Vegetarian Festival of the various shrines. And watch the atmosphere around Phuket Old Town during the vegetarian festival.

เทศกาลถือศีลกินเจได้เริ่มขึ้นแล้วเป็นเวลา 9 วัน 9 คืน ตั้งแต่วันที่ 26 กันยายน - 4 ตุลาคม 2565 การกินเจเป็นช่วงเวลาที่งดบริโภคเนื้อสัตว์ทุกชนิด เน้นการรับประทานผัก จังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นจังหวัดที่มีชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนอาศัยอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก มีศาลเจ้ากระจายอยู่ในจังหวัดภูเก็ตประมาณ 40 แห่ง ทำให้เทศกาลถือศีลกินเจเป็นเทศกาลที่ยิ่งใหญ่สำหรับจังหวัดภูเก็ต

แต่หลังจากมีเชื้อไวรัสโควิดระบาดทำให้ศาลเจ้าต่างๆ ในจังหวัดภูเก็ตงดจัดเทศกาลถือศีลกินเจถึง 2 ปี และเริ่มกลับมาจัดเทศกาลกินเจอย่างยิ่งในในปีนี้ ผู้คนที่กินเจก็จะแต่งกายด้วยชุดสีขาว วันนี้ฉันจะพาทุกคนไปรู้จักกับเทศกาลกินเจของแต่ศาลเจ้า และชมบรรยากาศรอบๆ เมืองเก่าภูเก็ตในช่วงกินเจ ไปกันเลยค่ะ

The first shrine that I will take everyone to is a shrine called "Tharuea", which is only 700 meters from my house. It is the oldest shrine in Phuket right on the road. If you take this route, you will see a beautiful shrine standing on the side of the road. There is a very good chance that you will pass by on your way to your hotel from the airport.

At the stairs leading up to the shrine is a large, beautiful dragon stretching its body along the railing.

บริเวณบันไดทางขึ้นศาลเจ้าจะเป็นมังกรตัวใหญ่ที่มีความสวยงามทอดลำตัวยาวไปตามราวบันได

This was the "Koteng" pole, which was a large, long bamboo stick. Before the start of the vegetarian festival, people will gold plate leaf on it and make a wish. After that, "Koteng" poles are raised to symbolize the beginning of the Vegetarian Festival.

A large incense burner stands in the middle of the shrine. After the people pay their respects and make wishes to the gods, they put incense sticks on this incense burner.

On the side of the shrine stands a large Guan Yu which is the god of honesty.

ด้านข้างของศาลเจ้ามีองค์กวนอูขนาดใหญ่ตั้งตระหง่าน ซึ่งเป็นเทพเจ้าแห่งความซื่อสัตย์

To welcome the vegetarian festival the yellow clock tower was also renovated with a fresh new paint job. And there are still tourists who come to visit and take pictures daily. And on the contrary, there is a large statue of Guan Yu, the god of fidelity.

Walking around Phuket Old Town you will notice that it is beautifully decorated for this year's Vegetarian Festival.

I will take everyone to pay respects to the gods at the "Tui Tui" Shrine, which is a big shrine located in Phuket Old Town. There are many people who come to worship and make blessings.

I take my son to worship and pray from the gods for the prosperity of life.

This is the palanquin of the gods, used for the parade that goes around the Phuket old town in the evening. In which the parade will have various gods come to stamp the human body and show various powers by using a spear to pierce the mouth using a sharp ax to slice your tongue. Unfortunately, I don't know what day the parade takes place so I don't have any pictures of these parades.

After paying respects, it's time to go shopping. Let's eat vegetarian food. In which the streets of Old Phuket Town will close the road around 5 pm., for people to come shopping and buy vegetarian food. Many people come to buy vegetarian food here.

หลังจากไหว้ขอพรเรียบร้อยแล้วก็ถึงเวลาช้อปปิ้ง กินอาหารเจกันค่ะ ซึ่งบริเวณถนนย่านเมืองเก่าภูเก็ตจะทำการปิดถนนในประมาณ 5 โมงเย็น เพื่อให้ประชาชนมาเดินช้อปปิ้งและซื้ออาหารเจ ซึ่งมีประชาชนมาจับจ่ายซื้ออาหารเจเป็นจำนวนมาก

This is my favorite roasted chestnut. No matter where I go to the market and find roasted chestnuts, I always buy and take them home. I enjoyed watching the series and eating chestnuts.🤣
