The Charm of Phuket Old Town!
Phuket Old Town had always been one of my favorite places to visit whenever. There was just something about the place that never failed to captivate me, no matter how many times I went there. Perhaps it was the Sino-Portuguese architecture that lined the streets, or the vibrant colors of the buildings that seemed to come alive under the tropical sun. Whatever it was, I knew that I was in for a treat every time I stepped foot in that charming little town. But when I visited Phuket Old Town after the COVID-19 pandemic, I was surprised to find that it had changed quite a bit. Many of the cafes and restaurants that had once been bustling with customers were now closed down, their windows shuttered and their tables and chairs empty. It was a sad sight to see, and I wondered if the town would ever recover. However, as I walked along the streets, I noticed that there were new businesses popping up everywhere like mushrooms after the rain. These were mostly cafes and small eateries, and they seemed to be doing quite well. People flocked to them in droves, eager for a taste of something new and exciting.
One of the places that caught my eye was a Sino-Portuguese building that had been converted into a garden. As I stepped inside, I was greeted by the sight of lush greenery and colorful blooms. It was like stepping into another world, one that was peaceful and serene. As I walked deeper into the garden, I came across a small park filled with Alocasia macrorrhizos, a type of elephant ear plant that was native to Thailand. The leaves of the plant were enormous, and they seemed to stretch up towards the sky as if reaching for the sun. As I marveled at the beauty of the park, I noticed that there were several souvenir shops nearby, selling everything from postcards and keychains to handcrafted jewelry and silk scarves. My eyes caught sight of a small shop tucked away in a corner. It was a Baruku shop, and it had an array of Baruku tubes lined up on the shelves. It was a perfect place to pick up a memento of my trip to Phuket Old Town. But what I loved most about the park was the fact that it was shaded and cool, thanks to the Alocasia macrorrhizos plants that grew all around it. It was the perfect place to escape from the heat and humidity of the Thai summer, and I found myself spending hours there, just soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and enjoying the natural beauty of the place.
