Hot Springs - A Solo Journey through Chiang Rai
The past two weeks had been a whirlwind of new experiences and unfamiliar places. It was my first time traveling alone, and I had embarked on a journey that would forever be etched in my memory. As the evening sun painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, I found myself wandering through the vibrant Tha Phae Market, soaking in the bustling atmosphere and marveling at the array of goods on display.
With the day drawing to a close, I decided it was time to head back to my hotel. But just as I turned to leave, something caught my eye—a tour counter adorned with colorful brochures and enticing photographs of scenic destinations. Curiosity piqued, I couldn't resist taking a closer look. The tours seemed to promise exciting adventures and the opportunity to explore the beauty of Chiang Rai.
Driven by my desire to make merit and pay homage to the revered monks in Chiang Rai, I approached one of the friendly tour salespeople. I inquired about a suitable trip that would allow me to fulfill my intentions. The staff eagerly presented a day trip that seemed tailored to my needs. Intrigued by the itinerary, I agreed to embark on this adventure.
The following morning, a cheerful van arrived promptly at my hotel at 7:10 a.m. I joined other eager tourists who had also booked the same tour. With everyone aboard, the van set off towards Chiang Rai, carrying us on a journey filled with anticipation and excitement.
*Our first stop along the way was the hot spring area. As the van came to a halt, we were given a brief respite to stretch our legs and visit the restrooms. The air carried a faint scent of sulfur, an indication of the geothermal activity occurring beneath the surface. The hot springs, ranging in temperatures between 50 to 100 degrees Celsius, captivated everyone's attention.
Within this naturally heated the vendors had cleverly harnessed the power of the hot springs to create a unique attraction. They provided baskets filled with eggs, ready to be boiled in the steaming waters. Surrounding the hot spring area, a multitude of souvenir shops beckoned tourists with an assortment of trinkets and memorabilia. The thirty-minute stop allowed us a glimpse into the local craftsmanship and a chance to collect tokens of our memorable journey.
