As the first light of dawn bathed the quiet streets, I found myself behind the wheel, embarking on a journey filled with anticipation and excitement. The clock struck 5:20 a.m., and my car rolled away from the comfort of home, bound for the enchanting spectacle awaiting me in Phuket Old Town.

The motive behind my early morning venture was a newly installed flower and butterfly show that had captured my imagination the night before. Eager to witness the vibrant display, I had decided to set out at the break of day. The Old Quarter, adorned with historical charm, was the chosen canvas for this visual feast, centered around the theme of the approaching Chinese New Year.

Guided by the images I had seen on a local news page, my curiosity surged. The focal point of the spectacle was a fountain roundabout, where a riot of colors awaited in the form of oversized, plastic flowers and butterflies. These captivating creations were brought to life by the subtle hum of motors, orchestrating a dance of elegance and grace.

Upon my arrival in the Phuket Old Town, a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation hung in the air. The atmosphere foreshadowed the impending celebrations for the Chinese New Year. Large plastic flowers and butterflies, radiating with an array of colors, swayed gently, creating an enchanting spectacle. However, to my dismay, the surroundings were shrouded in darkness.

To my great disappointment, it became apparent that the floral and butterfly display was only illuminated from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The vibrant creations, though still present, remained in a state of calm repose during the early morning hours. My plan to witness the lively dance of colors under the morning sun had once again fallen short of my expectations.

Despite the static state of the butterflies and flowers in the early morning darkness, their beauty remained undeniable. Undeterred by the absence of their graceful movements, I decided to capture the enchanting morning atmosphere. Armed with my camera, I focused on preserving the stillness that enveloped the Old Quarter, framing the vibrant plastic creations against the quiet backdrop of the dimly lit surroundings.

The fountain roundabout in Phuket Old Town serves as another location where the town showcases mascots during different festivals. In an effort to attract tourists and encourage them to visit and capture memorable moments through photography, this year's Chinese New Year festival will feature a display of flowers and butterflies.

Having captured images of butterflies and flowers, I made my way to the yellow clock tower intersection. This location is yet another spot where mascots are showcased during every festival. The trees surrounding the yellow clock tower were adorned with enchanting red lanterns, casting a beautiful and vibrant glow.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., the sky retained its dark veil, illuminated only by artificial lights. It was at this moment that I became acutely aware of the limitations of my camera in low-light conditions. The subdued pre-dawn ambiance highlighted the preference my camera had for daytime photography. I found myself appreciating the radiance of the sun more, longing for the natural brightness that daylight provides to capture moments with greater clarity and detail.

At the corner intersection, where vibrant mascots typically took center stage, a delightful change had occurred. Three adorable dragons now adorned the space, marking the onset of the Year of the Dragon in the zodiac calendar. These whimsical creatures instantly captured my attention with their endearing charm.

In the tranquility of the early morning, devoid of the usual influx of tourists, the dragons stood proudly, overlooked by the iconic yellow clock tower. Drawn to their cuteness, I seized the opportunity to capture their presence through my lens. However, as I reviewed the photos I had taken, I found them falling short of the enchanting scene before me.

Undeterred, I made a mental note to return later in the day, recognizing that the morning light might not have done justice to the charm of the three dragons. I envisioned a sunlit backdrop that would accentuate their colors and features, creating a more visually appealing composition.

The anticipation of witnessing the dragons once more before they were replaced by another mascot lingered in my mind. I marveled at the ever-changing landscape of the intersection, where each festival brought forth new characters and stories to be told. With the promise of better lighting and a more captivating perspective, I looked forward to revisiting the dragons and capturing their adorable essence in a way that truly reflected their charm.
