A Road Trip Tale from Phuket to Tak Province
Hello everyone
As the sun began to peek over the horizon, signaling the start of a new day, I found myself loading luggage into the trunk of my car. It was time to embark on yet another journey, one that had become quite familiar to me over the past few weeks. With a sense of determination mixed with a hint of weariness, I prepared for the long drive ahead.
"Are we ready to go?" I called out to my mother and grandchildren, who were bustling about, making sure they had everything they needed for the trip back home to Tak Province. They nodded in response, their excitement tinged with a touch of reluctance to leave behind the sandy beaches and warm sunshine of Phuket.
As we settled into the car, I couldn't help but reflect on the whirlwind of the past week. It had been filled with laughter, exploration, and the joy of spending quality time with family. But now, it was time to return to reality, to the routines and responsibilities waiting for us back home.
With a deep breath, I started the engine and began the journey back to Tak Province. The road stretched out before us, winding through lush greenery and picturesque landscapes. Despite the fatigue creeping into my bones, there was a sense of contentment knowing that I was surrounded by loved ones.
Our departure from Phuket was timed strategically, the early morning hour chosen to avoid the notorious traffic of Bangkok. I had learned from experience that navigating the bustling city could be a challenge, even with the help of GPS. But this time, I was determined to stay on course, to steer clear of any unexpected detours. As the kilometers ticked by, I couldn't help but marvel at the sheer distance we were covering. Nearly 899 kilometers separated Phuket from Rangsit University, where we were set to pick up another family member. It was a daunting journey, one that would take us approximately 14 hours to complete.
But amidst the exhaustion and monotony of the road, there were moments of respite. Our pit stop at the Cha-am gas station provided a welcome opportunity to stretch our legs, grab a bite to eat, and refuel both the car and ourselves. I had grown fond of this particular rest stop, with its spacious layout and array of dining options.
The chef is cooking up a storm, making a batch of the famous Kalamae dessert. The enticing smell wafts through the air as the ingredients bubble away in a large pan. Sticky rice flour, coconut milk, palm sugar, and a pinch of salt mingle together, creating a mouthwatering concoction that's both sweet and savory. With each stir of the spoon, the mixture thickens and caramelizes, turning into a delicious treat that locals and visitors alike can't resist.
In the hustle and bustle of the Cha-am gas station, with its mix of delicious snacks and souvenir stalls, my grandkids and I were spoiled for choice. It was scorching hot in April, so we were all craving something cold and sweet to drink. I suggested we hit up Cafe Amazon for some refreshing beverages.
But, with it being Songkran festival time, the place was packed with travelers like us, all making their way back home. I decided on a green tea to perk me up, but man, the line was long! While waiting, I checked out the cafe's decor and saw these cool hero figures displayed in glass cases. Despite stopping here plenty of times, I'd never noticed them before.
It was a neat surprise, to see all these figurines paying homage to different heroes. It made me think about the journeys we all take in life and the little surprises we stumble upon along the way. Finally grabbing our drinks, we continued our journey with a newfound appreciation for the unexpected moments that make life so interesting.
After a long day of driving, we finally pulled up to Rangsit University around 4:40 p.m. We parked in front of my niece's dormitory, but she still had an hour of class left. My legs were throbbing with pain from hours behind the wheel, so I remembered seeing a massage shop underneath her dorm the last time I visited.
I limped over to the massage shop and eagerly entered, desperate for relief. An hour of massage worked wonders on my tired legs, easing the ache and rejuvenating my body. Just as I was starting to feel human again, my niece showed up earlier than expected.
With my legs feeling much better, we hit the road again. Our destination was Home Sweet Resort in Singburi Province, a place I've stayed at countless times and always found impressive.
By the time we arrived at the resort around 8:20 p.m., we were all exhausted. We checked in, took quick showers to freshen up, and then collapsed into bed, grateful for the chance to rest after a long and eventful day.
