A Morning Stroll Through Phuket Old Town
Hello everyone
The weather was gloomy this morning, but I wanted to go for a walk in Phuket Old Town because I hadn't gone for a morning walk in a long time. After I dropped my son off at school, I drove towards Phuket Old Town, which is it is only 9 kilometers from my son's school. But this morning I dropped my son off at school later than usual, which made the journey not smooth because of rush hour traffic. But it didn't take me long to reach my destination. In the morning like this, there were a lot of free parking spaces, so I didn't park my car at the temple like I did when I came to the old city in the afternoon.
I parked my car near the iconic yellow clock tower, a striking landmark that stands proudly at the heart of Phuket Old Town. The tower's vibrant hue and elegant architecture make it an essential part of the old city's charm, and it’s a favorite spot for both locals and visitors alike. In fact, it’s often said that if you visit Phuket Old Town and don’t take a photo with the yellow clock tower, it’s as if you’ve never truly been there. The tower holds a special place in the town's identity, a beacon of its rich history and culture.
This area, with its wide, open yard, is designed to host important events in Phuket. Throughout the year, it transforms to reflect the various festivals and celebrations that take place. Today, the yard is adorned with decorations for the Chinese festival of Po Tor, also known as Sart Chinese. This festival is dedicated to honoring ancestors who have passed away, a tradition deeply rooted in the local culture. The most recognizable symbol of the Po Tor Festival is the red turtle, crafted from flour mixed with sugar and red food coloring. These red turtles, believed to bring good fortune and blessings, are displayed prominently, adding a vibrant splash of color to the surroundings. As I walked through the area, the rich cultural heritage of Phuket was on full display, blending seamlessly with the historical charm of the old town.
This morning the streets were quieter than any I've ever been before, with no tourists wandering around Old Phuket Town. After walking for a while, I smelled the sweet smell of roti. So I stopped by to eat roti in the morning. I ordered roti with eggs and a cup of Thai tea. This is an Islamic restaurant that sells breakfast. In the morning, it is full of people coming to eat. I've eaten here many times before but this time I only ordered roti and Thai tea because I wasn't hungry but when I smelled the roti I wanted to eat roti.
After I ate roti and drank Thai tea, I continued walking around Phuket Old Town because the weather was not hot. The stillness of the morning is my favorite time. I keep walking Because in Phuket Old Town, the roads all pass through each other, no matter which way you walk, you can come back to the same place. I walked in circles and then appeared where I parked my car. At first, I planned to stop by a cafe before going home, but the cafes in Phuket Old Town opened very late. So I decided to go home after seeing the historical road of Phuket Old Town until I was satisfied.
