Industry Take: The difference between Google and Hive-based content monetization
Sometimes we need to ask ourselves reverse questions, instead of “is hive ready for mass adoption?” we can ask the obvious “is the vast majority ready for the enormous network opportunities it offers?”
It is not something that is thought of quite often and this is understandable because the human mind can only know just as much as its limit is pushed. There’s this narrow look at things that makes us forget the core importance of “networking” without cryptocurrency incentivization.
Of what value is growing an audience, and what are the benefits of having an amount of influence in a specific network? On hive, we often don’t factor in these things, a 100 followers mean nothing here? Maybe because we see ourselves as regulars that the business merits of having a growing audience are neglected.
Understanding Content Monetization
What is content monetization? To some people the first thing that comes into their mind is “google AdSense” but the truth is, this should be the least of ideas in a “value network”.
Let’s look at a few things about Youtube. The biggest Vblogging platform, in fact, is considered a multi-purpose business atmosphere only that a primary focus on attaining goals is via video publication. When we look at it and look at Youtube music as well, there are things to note and that is how this company operates on ad-based and premium-based versions. With premium accounts, no ads, and this is something we’ve seen many businesses try to adopt because frankly, it’s more profitable.
But that is not even the case, the core focus is the “content” that is being monetized. Youtube is able to attain that subscriber base because valuable content flows through the platform, the company creates zero content but it owns millions of valuable content, feeding directly on its users' efforts.
A similar thing is applied to website monetization with Adsense, you do the work and they earn a big chunk off it, and this is why several platforms don’t grow because they limit themselves to this means of monetization.
Content monetization goes beyond google ads, there is the affiliate and referral system where one can enrich his content with links that can convert to profit, and then there’s this hugely overlooked piece on hive.
Understanding Hive-based Content Monetization
We need to realize that the rewards pool is a primary content incentivization, not the only medium of monetization there is. Creators and curators are incentivized to participate in the network but are not limited to growing a business environment by it.
The blockchain opens our eyes to different streams of monetization, as with hive, the reward pool is only an incentive in case the others are not coming through just yet. This is because, in a world where there are few valuable pieces to much crap content, there’s high demand for entities that present these valuable ideas to the world.
A piece of hive opportunities neglected is:
Account-based Promotion
Do you remember when we talked about hive accounts being similar to domains? Following this, we tend not to realize that we can leverage our activities here in so many ways.
Promotion is one way to do it. Why is it that nobody tends to embrace this in this blockchain space as much? Your account audience is a powerful tool for monetization, for instance, each time I put up content you can be certain that at least 100 impressions will be made on that content across different frontends(something that is also greatly overlooked).
Why 100? The actual figures are subject to many factors so I'm certain I could hit over 200 impressions considering that firstly, I have an audience of over 180 people, meaning that if all are active users, my post appears on 180+ feeds, added to the “main feed” where random accounts can see it, and also, the trending pages if it happens to get heavily rewarded, now imagine that happens on all frontends? That’s hundreds of “potential value customers” but yet people do not use this feature?
Reblogging a post can be monetized, you can decide to charge people to promote their content to your audience, in fact:
This is an official public announcement that I reblog content for as low as 3 HBD for two posts, and for a week(7 posts) I take 10 HBD.
So reach out to me on discord @badbitch#4158 to get promoted, if you want a written blog post we can negotiate on the price.
This is something every hiver should understand, hive is a social platform and unlike google Adsense, you will be keeping 100% of your rewards, don’t limit yourself to the rewards pool, do more and you’ll see yourself grow in this space.
Your account in itself is content, leverage it, and don't chase the rewards pool when you can actually live off it. Rewards on posts don't convert to customers or consumers, it is the people that do, value your audience, enrich your content(your account and posts), grow your engagement stats, and get famous baby, when millions to billions of users fill this space, you will hardly remember the reward pool while being an influencer in this space.

It's vital that we value those who engage with our content. If nobody looks at it, it's not adding value to the platform...
