My culture's gender role and the impact in my family
In Yoruba tradition, there is no form of gender equality; we are made to understand that there are different roles for both males and females. The males are the sole providers for the family, food, clothing, and shelter, while the females are responsible for taking care of house activities like cooking, washing clothes, plates, and other necessary things that need to be washed.
Growing up with my parents has given us a different orientation about responsibilities in the family. There is nothing like equality, but we are to help each other in the activities at home. My parents have been great people to emulate with their styles of impacting culture and modality in our lives.
As the head of the family (male), who is to provide for the family's needs financially or materially. My father has been playing his role due to our culture and discipline; he provides for our needs, and my brother's took that as part of the of the reason why my brother, @fashtioluwa acts like a father to me, his big sister, and that does not stop him from giving me my due respect because we are taught to always respect those above us.
There has been a delegation of chores by my parents. I have seen my brother lay bedsheets on the on the bed, and he does it perfectly well. Normally, in our culture, they feel it's a female duty to take care of the home, but my parents made us understand that we are to help each other in the house.
I have seen my father several times helping Mummy in the kitchen while she is cooking, and sometimes Daddy tells Mummy to leave the kitchen because he will be the one cooking for that day. As an assistant chef, I stay with him to help and also learn. My brother's are good cook also several times me and my sister do not have to bother about cooking because my mother has taught both how to cook very well. Delegation of chores helped me and my siblings do chores well without considering which gender ought to carry out certain duties. Sometimes the guys might wash while the ladies cook, or the ladies might do the reverse of the choice given.
In all things, we are taught to always help each other with chores at home, despite not being equal.
Thanks for reading. This is my entry for the Hivenaija prompt.

It's just best this way and that's why we see guys who takes care of their stomach well when they leave for school or to live alone.
Honestly, there was a guy in my hostel then he makes you of grinding stone to grind. It's good for a guy to know how to do things on their own
Wow that's really impressive and rare 😅
