Nigeria my country

I'm sure if you've read my posts before or we've met online, on hive, or in real life before you would know that I am a Nigerian. Not sure If it shows in my writing as well, If it does that's a bonus (tell me in the comments, does it?). I am very proud of where I come from. Nigeria is a large and diverse country located on the western side of Africa. There are over 300 tribes in Nigeria but over 70% of Nigerians are made up of three major tribes, Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. I'm proudly Yoruba but I grew up in the north which is where a lot of Hausas are located.

We all have different perspectives on Nigeria depending on what side you stay on or from where you chose to look, as for me my perspective on Nigeria is quite a positive one. We are a very accommodating set of people. I remember when I was very little I used to live in a compound with a lot of people. We were all different tribes about 6 different families and we were all so neighborly and kind to each other. During Christmas, we'd cook and deliver to all the houses both those celebrating and those that aren't. I still remember when my mum wanted to run another program at the university, I and my sister were too small to be left at home alone so one of our neighbors decided we could be staying at her place after school till the evening when my mum would return from school. She and her family were so nice and took care of us very well for nothing. She would feed us, show us cartoons, and even talk to us in her language (Gwari) which we began to understand. To this day we still communicate and I call her Big mummy. I even visit her whenever I travel to the north and eat some of her Gwari delicacies (Tuwo). All through my stay in that neighborhood, there was never any fight that I witnessed, and even when I moved to a new neighborhood it was almost the same.

This brings me to another reason I love my country, our food. We Nigerians always talk about how we have the best Jollof rice which is a fact (sorry my Ghanian brodehs), but there are also a lot of other foods we have which are just top-notch. There's Fufu and any Nigerian soup, Pounded yam and egusi, Amala and ewedu, Nkwobi, catfish pepper soup, and so much more which are just pleasant surprises for your mouth.

The general mindset of Nigerians is another reason why I love this country. The desire to succeed is seen everywhere. No matter how bad things get Nigerians don't lose faith and give up. They are always working hard to be successful and that keeps the younger generation motivated and instills in us hardworking traits.

With all that's been said If I was given the opportunity to leave the Country would I? My answer is yes. Why? Well, the major reason Is bad governance. As a nation, we have the resources to be better than we are now but the people in power have not handled our resources well. I can't blame them for all of the corruption, but a large part of it is their fault.

Do I think my country has all it takes to develop me as a person? My answer is yes. With all the things available In Nigeria you can be the best person ever in any field you want, but for some things you just have to put In more effort than you normally would in more developed areas. You also have to understand that a school education won't do too much for you other than giving you a degree unless you want to devote your life to academic work. Why then do I want to leave? If you can achieve the exact same thing faster and with less stress would you go for it? I hope this answers your question.

~Thanks for reading~

You are very right about the accommodating part. This is what I love about my country too. We are kind to each other, even though sometimes, bad acts suffice. Also, the readiness to survive and succeed is found in us, we easily adapt to change and that is it.

Our hospitality cuts across every tribe, we have all the natural, human and minerals resources. We just need to get the right people in the corridors of power and our dream Nigeria will be actualized.

Exactly. It hurts at times seeing all the potential we have being suppressed by mismanagement. And those in power refuse to let go because they want to keep on sucking our resources.

Nigeria is blessed, we just pray that we get into the right hands this time.

We have so many resources here in Nigeria that can make one be what we want to be but somehow it's not just easy as it should be. It's well.

And about you're question, for me I can say I know you're Nigerian through your writing to some extent. Not 100% though.

Nice write up my man.

Hehe, will we? Only time will tell. Corruption is much in the top and they won't want to let go of power.

Oh thanks for the honest opinion on my writing. I wonder how it shows, but I'm sure it's not something that's easy to describe.

Omo! You are writing like an Italian 🤧 Nigerians doesn't write like this at all. There, you got my response about that.

Seriously, I wish I could experience that kind of neighborhood you lived in, that woman and her family is amazing... No matter how bad they think Nigerians are. We literally have angels among us too.

To conclude and not give much talk... I totally agree with your views about our beautiful country, we just need to keep praying and hoping for the better.

All the best with your entry B0s 🙂

I know, you can't talk about the goodness of Nigeria and not talk about food, that alone, enhanced this post the more,

I also think people from the northern part are the kindest of all tribes if not for their vawulence nature in terms of Boko haram and other insecurities.

Food is life 🙂.

True, but funny enough the majority of them are not like that. Just they have a number of uneducated people who are groomed to do evil.

When it comes to accomodation, I can attest to this too about our country. Our food is an aspect of our culture I am proud of. Nigeria has got some natural resources to develop her citizens only with good leadership

Indeed, but at the moment it doesnt look like good leadership is going to be given the chance.

It is fantastic that so many tribes can live together in peace. It is always nice when people realise that there are more similarities than difference in the human race. Let's hope that good governance will happen soon enough as despite all the accolade you would still leave your country in order to have a less stressful life - which is understandable.

Indeed. I myself didn't we had over 300 tribes. Most of the times we just classify those under other tribes under the 3 major ones lol.

I'm hopeful good governance will happen soon, but I just don't see it happening immediately which is why I'm ready to leave if I get the oppurtunity.
