I was going through the status updates of one of my friends when I first saw the trailer of this series. I think it was the season 2 or 3 trailers I can't remember, but to be honest I had no idea what to expect. Judging from how gassed he was about the series' return I decided I'd add it to my watchlist and I did.

Fast forward to last month I was bored, just finished a cartoon series called F is for family, and was looking for a new series to watch. The boys came to head and I decided I'd give it a go.

The movie starts as your typical superhero movie starts, a group of thieves running away from the police in a van after robbing a bank. Two superheroes, Queen Maeve and the Homelander come in and stop the robbers heroically. They take pictures and the scene transitions smoothly to a Timid Hughie Campbell cleaning the TV and doing some other work in an electronics store when his girlfriend who seems pretty direct comes in and asks that they go over to her place and "lay some cable". On their way out they discuss how he's yet to ask his boss for a raise.

They have barely gone anywhere when she proposes plans for them to move in together.

Excited the pair share a kiss, and all of a sudden, mid-conversation, she bursts into pieces in the most gruesome way possible. He looks to his right, and there stood A-train, another superhero panting with blood all over his face. He mutters "can't stop, can't stop" and continues his super-speed running. Hughie stands there with his girlfriend's hands in his hands, traumatized by what had just happened.

Later on, A-train makes a public apology on TV saying she was in the middle of the road and he was unable to stop even though she was barely off the curb. Hughie is clearly enraged, and a while later, Vought, the company in charge of the superheroes sends a lawyer to give him some money to sign a restitution. He declines the offer.

Later on, he is met by a certain Billy Butcher who claims to be FBI and could help him get his payback for what happened to his girlfriend. His encounter with Billy Butcher will change his life forever.

Meanwhile, we are also shown Starlight a.k.a Annie. She has been training her whole life to join "The Seven" Vought's top superheroes, and make a big impact on a lot of lives. She finally achieves that dream and on her first day, she starts to see that things on the inside are not as she expected them to be.

I have heard about the movie and seen one or two memes and snippets, but when it was time to start I didn't know what to expect. I did what I probably shouldn't have done and asked a friend before starting what he thought about it. The thing is this friend and I have very different tastes when it comes to movies. He's more of a k-drama, love, and a little action sprinkled-with-comedy type of guy. I on the other hand I'm an all-rounder when it comes to movies, I can watch anything as long as it's good, though I tend to watch less romance and k-drama these days. Anyway, he said there was too much dialogue at times and it didn't really pique his interest so he didn't go anywhere in the series.

I started the series having this in mind, but to my surprise, it didn't stop me from enjoying the series. To me, the dialogue and the action were just the right amounts. I just kept on breezing through episodes. At times I'd say this is the last one and I'll find myself watching one or even two more. Considering each episode is an hour that is incredible.

The storyline is a very engaging one and as it progresses it just leaves you wanting more. The whole concept of superheroes not being perfect as they are pictured in Marvel and DC movies Is not very popular, but I've seen it in one other series called the Umbrella Academy. They also did a good job in that, but the boys do it better and make it more realistic and modern with companies, government, social media, and the general media and public playing a key role in the story as it progresses.

One thing I like as well is the character development and how in-depth they go into the characters. As the series progressed it was great to see Hughie progress from being so timid and afraid to face challenges to an independent guy who is not afraid of anything, even people who can rip him apart in seconds with their bare hands.

The acting was also spot-on. Everyone played their roles so well and each character's personality was depicted well. I personally had two favorite characters. The first one is Billy Butcher. His British accent, swag, his gruffness, strong headedness, and unapologetic nature are unique and what makes me like him. He doesn't back down from challenges and though it almost cost him his life a couple of times it's pretty effective in his line of work.

Then there's the Homelander. He is just a different breed. He is the leader of "the seven", the team of the greatest superheroes mankind has. Very powerful and feared even by superheroes. But even with that, he is very misunderstood, tends to make a lot of horrible decisions, is reckless, and is self-centered. But under all that is just a person who is seeking public approval.

As for the cinematography, the effects, and the CGI, it is all top quality. Not once did I look at any scene and say this does not look real. With the number of crazy scenes that this series has and how great and sometimes maybe unnecessary it is, it is no surprise how large their budget is. According to buzzfeed each episode of season one had a budget of 11.2 million dollars per episode which was increased in the next season.

The progression of the story is also really good. Each season tends to be so much better than the other. Currently, season 4 is still on the way and I'm excited, but I'm wondering how they can possibly top that season 3. Fingers crossed they don't end up spoiling an incredible series by over-extending it, as we've seen in the past from some good series.

I think it is a great series, It draws you in rather quickly and just keeps leaving you wanting more. It has lots of Language, Violence, Gore, and sex, so it's therefore not for anyone under the age of 18. It's great for you if you like action movies, superhero movies, or an all-rounder. I'd argue anyone would enjoy this, but that's impossible. Go ahead and give it a try and if you have watched it, tell me what you think. As for me, I give it a 9/10. Looking forward to seeing season 4.

Murmura "no puedo parar, no puedo parar" y sigue corriendo a toda velocidad.

Anímate a probarla y si la has visto, dime qué te parece. Por mi parte, le doy un 9/10. Deseando ver la cuarta temporada.

~Gracias por leer~

Superhero films always interest me. I grew up watching as many of them as a kid can watch in his childhood. And this one, with A-train seeming like The Flash with a glitch, has me interested.

The Boys does seem like The Umbrella Academy, but with a difference in direction. They share similarities in having a team of super heroes managed by one man, but different in the sense that The Umbrella Academy focuses on time travel concepts.

I think I like that this is an adult type of superhero series, and therefore would have more realistic progression in its story and dialogues.

I'd like to indulge myself in its story. Let's see how it goes.

haha, man said flash with a glitch. Most of the superheroes are sort of copies of some marvel and Dc characters. A-train is like flash, Homelander is like superman, Queen Maeve is like wonder woman, The deep is like aqua man, and we even see a captain America copy somewhere along the line.

Yeah, The boys majorly focuses on time travel.

I think I like that this is an adult type of superhero series, and therefore would have more realistic progression in its story and dialogues.

yes you're correct.

Goodluck. Tell me what you think.

I also started the series without many expectations, I thought it was another super-hero alike one.... But probably not knowing anything about it or expecting less, makes the experience even better... I fell in love 😍
I found it so original that I saw the first season in a matter of days
And yeah the Homelander is of a different breed, he is one of the best villain you canfind
Btw, have you seen the animated series Invincible? If you liked the boys than you will like that too

Indeed watching it without expectations made it so much better.

No, I haven't seen the animated series. I'll check it out thank you

I enjoyed watching this series, I must confess but Homelander made the movie a little bit unbearable for me to continue. I stop in season two half way but I plan to make it through soon because Dean Winchester( Jensen Ackles aka
Soldier Boy) 😅.

This is a wonderful review! I enjoyed reading it. Cheers!

haha, let me guess you hated him too much. Homelander was just diabolical and mental at times. Each time I see photos and videos of the actor It just seems weird to see him laughing without looking like he wants to laser off someone's head.

Homelander is one of my favorite characters. And yeah, Soldier boy. He did an amazing job as well.

Thanks for reading and stopping by
