The Magic Pencil

Lucy loved to draw. She had a sketchbook full of colorful drawings of animals people and places. She used different kinds of pencils pens and markers to create her art. But her favorite pencil was a plain wooden one that she had found in her grandfather's attic.

She didn't know why but whenever she used that pencil her drawings came to life. Literally. She could draw a bird and it would fly out of the page. She could draw a flower and it would bloom and smell sweet. She could draw a cake and it would taste delicious.

Lucy was careful not to let anyone else see her magic pencil. She cherished it as a unique treasure and she was afraid of losing it or giving it to anyone. She kept it hidden unless she was alone in her room or in the backyard.

One day Lucy decided to draw something different. She wanted to draw a friend someone who would understand her and play with her. Someone who would appreciate her magic pencil as much as she did.

She opened her sketchbook and traced a girl with curly brown strands and green irises. She adorned her with a pink dress and a blue knapsack. She named her Anna.

As soon as Lucy finished drawing Anna the girl smiled and waved at her from the page.

"Hi Lucy!" Anna said. "Thank you for drawing me. You're very talented."

Lucy was amazed. She had never drawn a person before let alone one who could talk.

"Hi Anna!" Lucy said. "You're welcome. I'm glad you like it."

"I do" Anna said. "Can we be friends?"

"Of course" Lucy said. "We can be best friends."

Lucy and Anna started to chat and laugh. They had a lot in common. They both liked drawing reading and playing games.

Lucy was so happy that she had found a friend who understood her and appreciated her magic pencil.

But then a twist of events occurred.

Lucy's mother knocked on the door.

“Lucy honey come to the table, it’s dinner time,” she said.

Lucy panicked. She didn't want her mother to see Anna or her magic pencil.

She hastily grabbed the sketchbook and stuffed it under her pillow.

"Okay Mom I'm coming" she said.

She skipped from her bed and sprinted to the door.

She didn't notice that she had left the magic pencil on the floor.
