Taking A Peek of the Plaza In A Rainy Afternoon
Let's start the walk at a time where I was lost. π
I have a conversation with one of my seniors earlier that day about the live band concerts during this Masskara Festival. Aside from the traditional street dances annually, this is one of the events that I'm looking forward to. He said that he is a guitarist and also a vocalist in their band. Since I'm interested, I asked him when will be their next event but he wasn't sure of when exactly is their next schedule.
We were dismissed early and I still have several hours left to wander around the downtown area. I just never expected one thing, and which has never occurred to me that there is this always a change of route for the jeepneys and all of the vehicles during the Festival. They are closing the streets around the plaza area for the whole month of October. Every jeepneys which have routes within the venue will have to follow the alternative routes provided by the government.
Then, there was me who totally forgot this traffic regulations during the festival celebration. I almost got back to the school campus if I haven't checked the landmarks. π
I was walking in the crowded street and dropped by inside the market as I have to claim uniform my since the embroidery was already finished. Then, got out of there and continue my plan to wander around the downtown to check if there are some activities that suits my interests. Just by seeing this landmark at the distance, it made me feel assured that I wasn't lost anymore. It would take me just a few steps before reaching the plaza and I know that I was already at the downtown. All vehicles were once passing by around this area but they can't now. Authorities have set up a lot of barriers to fully imply that the area is off limits.
On the right side of this land mark, it is where all of the vehicles where only allowed to pass by regardless of their routes. It causes traffic jams in that area. It would take them more or less 10 to 15 minutes before getting out and be able to proceed smoothly to the next route. This is the disadvantage despite the earning opportunities that is brought by the celebration. A whole month of inconvenience for all of the people around the city. Well, anyway, it was just the commuters who are mostly affected since it is always time consuming to be stuck in traffic jams. Others might not mind this much since they are gaining benefits from the surge of people around the place which is lured by this annual events.
So, how's the festival's celebration so far?
There are small pennants or banderitas that are hanging above the roads indicating a fiesta. It is already a tradition that these things are always present to events such as this and a celebration wouldn't be complete without them. Inside the vicinity, a lot of kiosks are installed temporarily and were only allowed to operate for the whole month of October. This is also just another way of the government to generate income from the festival. If you want a spot here to display and sell your products, you have to pay for a permit and the rent first.
Light rain started pouring down from the gloomy skies. I walked faster towards the Gazebo inside the public plaza to take shelter for a while.
Despite of the heavy rains earlier, the show goes on for these people. They already have finished when I got here and just happily taking photos with their smiling faces above the stage. Not even one visitors here mind the light showers of the rain, but just go on taking photos with the spot attractions here as their background. Bringing the smiles back can't surely be stopped by anything right now.
I saw the top the San Sebastian Cathedral peeking above the establishments and the trees. Probably, just calling my attention because I haven't attended a mass for a few weeks now. Ops, sorry about that.
There are some people who are also taking a shed inside the gazebo. Some of them are the ones who attended the event earlier and some are the guards on duty.
This food truck is a project of the newly elected Mayor. They are giving out porridge and breads for the children and every people who will take shelter in the Gazebo. Mostly, they were giving it out to homeless people who sleeps in the streets and the plaza, yet anyone who are hungry and can pass by their truck can still have it. They even invited me to have a cup of porridge and the guy never leaves me alone if I wouldn't take it. Thank you, then. A cup of porridge in that size in some eatery can costs me Php 20 without a boiled egg, and Php 35 if there's one but here, they're giving it out for free.
I ate the porridge while waiting for the rain to stop and some people here also are doing the same.
Just after a little while, it finally stops and some people started going. As soon as I finished the porridge, I also did and went out to the west entrance.
I noticed this statue there. It looks more attractive now that they have painted it. I just hope that they could change the waters, 'cause it is full of algae and super dirty. It could have been better to replace it with a cleaner water and put some fishes on it. I think it could also attract people somehow like it did in the capitol lagoon. They put Tilapias on it, then people just keeps on coming by every day to feed them as a way of stress-relieving.
There wasn't much events for now, and that's what I have noticed from wandering. Most of what they are doing for now are still preparations and some of the kiosks aren't even completely installed yet. I'll be keeping an ear about the upcoming events but most probably, it will start making noise starting at the second week.

That is indeed a noble thing, that the food was given to homeless people and all those who are hungry. Sometimes we have similar things here too but never saw that it is especially given to homeless people.
Oh, take care when it is slippery :) I don't like to fall, well, I guess nobody like it hahaha
I often see programs like that here, especially during rainy season. Yeah, I'm really careful not to slip now 'cause I had it painfully back then. ππ
Oh no, so a painful experience that made you be so careful :)
