The Thinker Solomon.
Art, thoughts and history in a sculpture made in the 1970s by an American sculptor called Hamilton Reed Armstrong.
The sculpture is of a Jewish poet and philosopher who was born in Malaga, but whose birthplace is known from his writings.
He was a great inspiration for the world of Christianity because of one of his great works, translated into Latin, called "The Fountain of Life". It is about a dialogue between a master and his disciple.
He also produced several works in Arabic and his writings from the Middle Ages were famous.
The sculpture was moved from its original location due to its inaccessibility and is now located in gardens named after the poet, opposite the city's Roman theatre.
Solomon was born around 1021 and died in 1058 in Valencia. Although he was born in Malaga, his family had to flee to the north where he was trained and educated. For a long time Solomon was not well received and lived in exile.
The poet and philosopher has, in the sculpture, a pensive pose. What struck me most is the material and the way the sculpture is made, with a very old style despite the fact that it was sculpted in 1969.
He was also known as Avicebron and was believed to be a Christian until the 19th century. Initially, as his works were not translated into the Jewish language, he was thought to be a Muslim, but this was later disproved.
On the plaque that was placed next to Solomon, he is listed as a poet and philosopher, but little or no information is said about the making of the sculpture and the materials used in it.
I took several shots of the sculpture, mainly detailing the expression on his face and details such as his hands and clothing.
As I mentioned, the sculpture itself caught my attention because of the holes in the material, but also because of the expression of the thinker's face, as if he was absorbed in his thoughts and what he wanted to express.
It is a beautiful work of art, which evokes one of the important figures of the time, which attracts the attention of tourists passing through the place and which now has its rightful place because of its impact on the history of Christianity.
I send you all my best wishes and see you next time.

Thank you!😀
How excellent that even though it was sculpted in the 70's they have given it a touch of antiquity, that's appreciation for the past ❤️
Nice shots from different angles of this beautiful sculpture of Solomon 😍
I think the material is metal but I don't know why that weave caught my attention.
Thanks Yamila!❤️
I wonder if this is how it was originally made. It looks like the statue was made of bronze or perhaps some alloy that contained bronze. Bronze statues tend to weather and develop a greenish color. Great photographs of this historical work!
That's what I was wondering, but I looked everywhere for information and got nothing, only that it's metal. I think it's as you say. Thank you very much!😀

Gracias David!😀

Hi, nice sculpture, but why does it have torn clothes?
I think it has to do with the way the metal it was made from was worked, it's very rare!
